I recently bought a 50 watt JCM800 from a guy who said that his Bassman was the only amp he needed, that he no longer needed the Marshall. Tweed amps sound great but I haven’t ever gigged with one. I just built a tweed Super and have been dying for an opportunity to use it in a band setting.

It's true...a 5F6A Bassman is the be-all and end-all...IMO, of course, but I'm not alone.
For me, the 4x10 is a big part of the magic. I play mostly small clubs and the way the sound immediately disperses is a beautiful thing. You can stand 6' in front of a 4x10 and hear virtually what the rest of the room is hearing...no beamy-ness.
That being said...if I didn't have the Bassman, I would be happy as a clam with a good silverface Super Reverb.
It's almost absurd to gig a 6-$10k amp when a $1k amp will put you right in the same ballpark.
What you REALLY get for the extra dough is the ability to hear a great tone at a gig, steal a glance behind you and think, TWEED FUCKIN' BASSMAN, BABY!!
The next best thing, of course would be a 5F4 tweed Super.
GIG THAT BADBOY!!!

Hey...don't get me wrong...my Bassman is the only amp I want to plug into.
I have gout, 2 wrecked shoulders, tendonitis(trigger finger) in my right hand, one bad knee and another that an orthopedist told me he was shocked I could still stand on... 20 YEARS AGO, and I will still manage to get that Bassman up a long, steep flight of stairs to Saturday night's gig.
But...when I didn't have one, I was very happy gigging other amps and If I had to get rid of the Bassman (or if it broke down), I'd be happy as hell with a Super Reverb.
I probably like the Bassman 15% better, if it's possible to quantify it (it's not).
It's sort of like building horsepower.
The first 5% gain might cost $600.
The next 5%....1500
And so on...

OH YEAH. CON-FREAKIN-GRATS

Thanks!
I always feel like I could add....
I have virtually no income.
I volunteer/live/work in a farming commune of sorts and my needs are taken care of, but I don't think anybody would consider a tweed Bassman a NEED...well...not non-guitar players ;)
I have my band where I take home $50/gig (the rest pays expenses...recording, PR guy, radio consultant...)until the expenses are paid off; and another gig where I take home $100/night.
It all gets squirreled away until it adds up to a cool purchase; and sometimes I sell a couple items to feed the pile.
I don't drink or do dope (anymore ;) ), and I work on the farm 6 days a week from 7am-9pm, so I don't have time to spend money!!
It always surprises me when someone says, "I'll never have enough money for something like that."
It's all a matter of how much you want it!
I'm 56 and that Bassman represents years of buying, selling, saving...
It was worth it!!!

Yup! That's the one. Nice to hear a good player demo-ing something on Youtube.
Sometimes it's so painful.
The 410 thing is serious.
A year or so I dug out my Super Reverb (2 of them, actually), and I figured I'd haul one out to a bar gig 1 more time before I sold them, because they're "too much amp" for clubs.
What I heard blew me away.
I found myself playing the amp more than ever. It did everything....stays fat way up on the, fretboard and down low it cuts through so beautifully..
I was having so much fun, and the harp player turns to my ear and says, "Super Reverb, baby!"
Not long after that, I got a SMOKIN' deal on an under-the-bed ES125TC on Craigs and a buddy offers me his Kendrick Bassman clone for it...game over!
