1. is it 2008 Gibson Custom Shop Inspired by Slash Les Paul Standard, Aged & Signed?

2. how to distinguish if it is genuine or not? what is the characteristic the guitar should have?

3. used street price range?

yes it's the 2008 inspired by series made by the custom shop.

yes murphy did age it, it should have a CS COA with the guitar.

last one I saw was advertised on music zoo a while back IIRC, for an obscenely inflated price of like 14k which is totally insane.

I had one for a while, really a beast of a guitar, quite unrefined. It played good but they tend to be a bit heavy with the three-piece top. You'd have to be insane to pay more than $10k for that one. If you're going to spend that, then get the Appetite guitar which is so much better. I have one of those now and the pickups, electronics, looks and playability are way better.
If you really like the look of the "no. 1", why don't you just get what it was in the first place, a 1987/88 Standard. There are often some on sale on eBay with a bit of a "Slash-premium" to pay but nothing too dramatic. Then you can put in the latest Seymour Duncan Alnico II Pro pickups (much better than the ones in that no. 1 guitar) and there you go.

Personally I always thought of Slash with this guitar (and the goldtop he used during that era) since I got into them during the UYI era. The AFD is nice, but I don´t relate it to Slash.

That said, without the reference it would just be 80´s standard with a three piece top..

I owned 4 of these guitars and all of them was very consistant and sounded and played great. I sold 3 of them but i still have one and its one of my favorite guitars.

wow they just must have got that in, I was perusing their site just the other day and it wasn't there.

They kinda come in ebbs and tides. Sometimes you see many VOS or aged go up at various places, then nothing. When I got my VOS one about a year ago, it took me 9 months to locate one for a price I was willing to shell out.

This is seriously my dream guitar. I still remember staring at it outside the shop for the longest time. If I'm a working adult that time in 2008, I'm sure I'll break the piggy bank to get one !

i posted this thread, because the guitar poped up in local area at $8,000.

but it has been played a lot and has fretwears and dings.
so i gave up.

really can't understand that why the owner has used it as a main guitar, though it is signed.

Not trying to be a downer but wouldn't it be easier (cheaper) to find an 87 standard? One member here did and threw some APH-1's in it and it's as authentic as you could get minus the aging. It's just strange they reissued a replica of an '87.

i was thinking about this that day. but sure there's much value for it being an iconic live guitar for slash. but the rocket prices doesn't quite seems to reconcile with that being a [just] a 87 standard replica. - where prices of these range of 8k, it should be like the R9s / CCs we're talking about.

USD 8k seems pretty decent for the 'inspired aged + Signed'. My mind was extremely swayed yesterday night but after much thoughts... I've decided not to actively pursue for one. After all, my bank account couldn't' take another purchase of a custom shop guitar anyways.... ha!

8k is what I saw the last 'aged' one of these listed at. GC in manhattan had a signed one and they wanted 14K iirc. I don't know serial or what it sold at (they no longer have it listed). If the guy has a s/a one for 8k, no matter the playwear, I'd probably take a stab at it, unless it's been beat to dogshit even more than slash did his! I like my VOS one actually. They are heavier but that's to be expected. Not one of my main players but THAT guitar is the one I associate with Slash moreso than his AFD Derrig. Plus I can say that I saw him play THAT guitar live so it's that extra special tie in for me.

I think this is the one. When I saw him in August he only used it for a few songs. To me that is the LP that I identify him with. The sweet child video had a huge impact on me as a teen and how I saw LP's. The way I see it, find a 87 LP (2000-2500 depending on condition, have a competent guy age it ($500?) and you are only in for $2500-$3000 max. Is Slash's signature worth another 5-8k? Not to me. You would also have the real deal. It's a Custom shop replica of a Gibby USA guitar.

Here's my two cents:
Buy a Slash sig only if you're going to keep it as an investment and flip it in the future. Otherwise, not worth it. I mean we're talking about $8-14k here! If I gave you a list of the guitars you could get for $8k, I'm pretty sure you'd think twice about spending the money on this guitar, no matter how much nostalgia/influence you associate with it. Sig guitars are tricky. Somewhere along the line you get this empty feeling like am I really that big of a fan that I put this much money into this guitar when I could have bought vintage or a kickass "generic" Historic that I could make my own?

And a factory second '87 standard at that. 8-14k for a copy of a guitar that didn't pass QC and was sold off cheap

that's his artist prototype of it. He uses those live as well as his AFD protos too. He used them both when I saw in in 2012. When I saw GnR in 1992 he used the 'real' 87 factory second which was in the SCOM vid and was his main live axe during UYI. That's why I had to have one of these!
