Guy in the truck was a tool.

But quite a few people on the road think they are in one of these...

Motor vehicle codes often seem confusing. I suspect, however, closer examination of the codes of each state would reveal a fairly clear picture of what is legal and what is not. Very little is left up to interpretation.

My own understanding is that if I am using the left lane, regardless of my intentions, I must yield to anyone overtaking me, when I am able to do so safely. I also understand that to deliberately impede traffic in the left lane, for any reason, is a violation of motor vehicle codes and subject to prosecution.

Its very simple...

in most places with a left lane law:

NO VEHICLE may use the left lane on the highway unless they are passing another vehicle, and must return to the right lane after making the pass. (there is usually an exemption for emergency vehicles and the law usually only covers state highways, not two lane city streets)

Simple. Pass Left.. Stay right.

FURTHER.. the Speed limit is the speed limit.. it does not mean that you HAVE to go that speed, it means that you are not allowed to go FASTER than that speed.

I'm 100% sure that the question "Is it permissible for you to exceed the speed limit in order to pass another vehicle" is still on the PA drivers license test. and the answer is NO.

The minimum speed is usually around 45 MPH.. soooo on most PA highways.. cars can go from 45-65 MPH..

therefore, you may pass someone in the right lane whos going 45 MPH in the left lane...

BUT.. someone doing 45 MPH should NEVER be in the left lane because, being that the minimum speed is 45 mph, they should never overtake anybody else...

Soooo... If everybody obeyed the rules..

the fastest person on the highway would be going 65 mph,.. and the only people being passed would be going less than 65 mph.. and the left lane would be in almost pristine condition.

But that aint how it works.. you have jackasses tooling around at 55 mph in a 65 mph zone in the left lane and people going 80 mph ziging and zagging around everybody else like rabid squirrels on roller skates..

you got idiots that will ride beside a truck going 60 in a 65 for ten miles on a curvy hilly road... and then haul ass at 100mph on a straight stretch only to slow down beside the next truck just to piss you off...

the problem is people.... they CANT DRIVE

Every pace car yields the right of way for faster traffic...eventually (sorry, couldn't resist). :D

This thread makes it sound like almost no one should ever be in the left lane,..and if you're in the left lane you're an a**hole. :laugh2:

Turning left in a half mile? What are you doing in the left lane you stupid b*tch! What you think just because you're turning left soon you should be in the left lane? ...stupid b*tch!

:laugh2:

Tempted to get one of these, that's hilarious!

If any of you guys who get all aggro over the left lane ever come out California, please bring lots of cab fare. Thank you.

Or ride your motorcycle, and enjoy lane-splitting right in front of cops, I hear it's a thrill for tourists. :laugh2:

Just build a hatch into your rear fender that drops caltraps with a switch release, and enjoy viewing the ensuing carnage in your rear view mirror.

That'll teach that tailgating SOB,..give him something to think about while he flips end over end.

:D

..just kidding don't do that.

Ya I did, I also read your other posts in the same thread. Move over and stop being a tool.

So I'm not special and I'm being a tool because I'm only slightly speeding and refuse to swerve in front of a semi to let someone pass me, but everyone who excessively speeds deserves the same courtesy we give to an ambulance with the sirens on?

Well she does have an obligation to drive safely. She did say it was wet and she didn't want to go even faster on wet roads. She also did not have an opportunity to get ove to the right immediately. The dude in the truck probably needed some good tunes to relax a bit. Getting all bent out of shape over a minor inconvenience on the road is immature. Kind of makes you think he has bigger problems if this gets him angry. I just crank some tunes and enjoy the ride.

If there's nobody in the right lane, then why would somebody be coming up behind someone on the left? Shouldn't the person coming from behind (and obviously the left lane driver) already be in the right lane if it's empty?

No, put your blinker on when I come up behind you so I know that you see me. I don't want you swerving into the path of semis at all, I want you to safely change lanes to the right as soon as it practical to do so.

Unless you're a police officer, it's not your job to monitor my speed. I may have a very good reason for exceeding the speed limit.

While driving, put safety first, not social justice. :thumb:

This brings me right back to my main issue with the woman in the video. It isn't that she is in the left lane passing trucks and gets tailgated, its that when she has the opportunity to give way she doesn't, and when presented with a dangerous right side overtake she choses to accelerate, thereby making a dangerous situation worse.
