As I type, she is in Amsterdam for 2 weeks. She lives near me in WA. The USA kid is one of my stepson's daus I babysat from age 4 to 6. She is 16 now. Anyway, she is being groomed and supported to compete in the next Olympics. She has already traveled all over the world competing. Lots of money has been spent by her family. Apparently, she is starting to get subsidized by some organization that has AAU ties. Her parents are, obviously, all over this. She is already having some issues with stress-fractures and/or plate growth in her legs. I wish my grand-dau all the success reaching her goal. I hope her parents will keep her wellbeing in mind. I think they are. I'm keeping my otherwise buttinsky mouth out of this. Have any of you guys experienced this?

She is supposed to top out a 5'11". She has none of my genes. I'm 6'6". My wife's family had a run of very tall girls. One of my nieces ended up way tall. My step-son is prolly 5'10". His wife is in the 5'5" range. Her sisters are 5'3" and maybe 5'6".

Love it, Fett. My cousin, my dad's little sister's son, he was at the 1972 Munich games on the USA gymnastic team.

We are old enough to have been coaches. This was in the early 90's. I was an assistant Little League coach. It was in the 'burbs in Marin Co. Anyway, there was this kid that was bigger and taller than our munchins. This kid could hit the ball no matter what. He hit homeruns at just about every at bat. His dad was also an assistant coach. We had made the playoffs. I was the bench coach. This kid was at bat. He struck-out. He sat down and said something like this; "I'm tired of holding up the team." The little shit did this deliberately. I benched him. I know my grand-dau has an advantage due to her height. I also know she has talent. I also know her. She is taking this with great humility; poise; respect; willingness to be coached and doing quite well in high school. I'm so proud of her.

My 17 year old niece is 6'1" and a star basketball and soccer player. Currently she's a junior in high school but I hope she at least gets a college scholarship for one.

My oldest son was a phenomenal baseball player. We took him to a city league at the age of 12 or so. It was like a grown man playing with kindergardners. His batting average was over .900. He played high school ball and had 5 college offers.... a tryout with a reds farm team at 17 yrs old and was asked to come back........ dropped it all. Did none of it. I admire the dedication it takes to go to the next level. He did not have that.

This kid is on the verge of going to a level ,in her chosen sport, that few have attained. I get that the roster of players is not as large as the mainstream sports. I do have experience watching my cousin wrestle back in the late '80's. He was a high school champ in Hemet, CA. A small town. He got to the point of travelling to meets. They came north and I got to see my aunt and uncle and go to see my cousin do his magic. My grand-dau's world is way different both literally and figuratively. It's a heavy load for a 16 year old.

It's all about "reach". Boxers that have a long reach have an advantage. Long legs and height are game changers in this sport. She is a star. So far, she seems to understand how "Special" she is. I know, for a fact ,that she is special. I am not bragging about my grand-dau. I am more concerned about a 'crash'.

Familiar situation with my oldest son.....

Decorated Little League/BabeRuth/Select baseball player
Allstar Selection every season since age 9

All League Highschool Baseball player 9th-12th grade....yep even as a freshmen.

1st team all league pitcher, second team all league catcher senior season.....only such combo in school history.

Worked out at Devil Rays scouting facility junior and senior year winter....Sunday nights up in Auburn, Wa.

Was set up to play at Local Jr College to get playing time at both Catcher and Pitcher while stabilizing some acedemic's...

Bailed and drove down to Midland Texas to work at a refinery....

Comes home a year later at age 19 ....plays in a NW regional select late summer/fall league with my younger son Seth.....leads them to pre-season tourney championship....league title and regional post season championship.....

Gets spotted by 3-4 Div3 schools and offered job and tuition vouchers to play down Oregon.....

Blows them off to go work commercial construction in Denver......

Fucks off for 6-8 more years.....now plays on nationally ranked mens fast pitch team for fun and works....

Never focusing on the real opportunity afforded him on 2 different occasions......

But I still love him....

As a family of black belts (Nutz the Younger and I are fourth dans, Ms. Nutz a fifth and Nutz the Elder a first) I can attest that TKD is a tough sport to top out in. Speed, distance and accuracy all play a huge part, with speed being key. Take a few head shots, and you’ll realize quickly it’s a young person’s game; great fun though! Nutz the Younger had her potential and decided not to pursue it. I wish her extreme success and no injuries!
