It was 107°F when we started playing this fund raiser gig.

Personally, I think shorts are fine.

But a couple of years ago, I posted pics and video of a hot summer gig we did here in SC, and I got ripped buy some guys who thought I should have worn long pants.

Where were you MoFo's when I need some back-up?!

:dude:

Bermuda shorts, blue knee socks, and a pith helmet.

Monocle is optional

You know you want to.

Whether you wear shorts or not, you might want to consider bringing a couple of fans to use while onstage. Not only will that keep you cooler, it will keep the bugs off you. Don't use bug spray- if you have DEET on your arm and you sweat, it can dissolve the finish on your guitar.

Just played a gig last Saturday and had the same dilemma. I went with shorts. So did our drummer, bass player, and other guitar player. Singer wore jeans......he roasted, we didn't. Turned out fine.

Small portable AC unit..On stage..

With a large reciprocating fan blowing across the stage..

I remember talcum powder all over neck on the 355 as sweat poured off..

90-plus degrees. Boots and all, the whole rig weighed about 18 pounds.

Jeremy on the flying V was smarter than I. There was a stretch , during "Green Manalishi" I think, where I almost lost track of where I was.

Oh that is just wrong, in the heat.

Asking for a stroke, that is.

I played some gigs in shorts, and imo, everything is ok as long as the socks are short as possible, lol , and if you have the right attitude.

I have a gig tonight with my horn band (covers Steely Dan, Tower Of Power, Etc) and it's an outdoor event. It's 90 degrees and high humidity. Gig is from 6:30 to 8:00 PM. I feel that as long as folks wear descent shirts and clean shorts with nice shoes that shorts should be OK. The singer feels strongly that we should wear full long pants stage attire. So what's the consensus of folks that play out here?

See these days you don't have to chose, just wear those short/pants that blur the line. So low you wonder if their shorts, so hi they can't be pants. After that, you are allowed to take off either your your shirt, or your pants, but not both. If you're a brave well equipped bloke then thrill the ladies with a classic Chili Pepper sock routine. If that's not your sock, then just pull an Iggy Pop. Suggestion, if you go with the former, use gaffers tape.

Thanks for all the votes. I wore shorts, brought long pants and just didn't get time to change. Then an hour in the thunderstorm rolled in and called it a day...

Question one: is there a contract?
Question two: if not, WHY NOT?
Question three: if the contract stipulates band attire, wear whatever you wear in promos, videos etc. if no contract, wear what's agreed by the band

Go for it, unless you are talking about 'cargo' shorts. No adult male should ever appear off his own property, in public wearing 'cargo' shorts. Same goes for 'bowling' or 'busboy' shirts.

Add 'jorts' to that list too. Unless you're actually in Gainesville, and even then it's questionable. If you're wearing your Tebow or Wuerffel jersey it's acceptable, but only in the City of Gainesville. Or Chiefland. Nowhere else.

Living in Lancashire I have no comprehension of 90F or shorts for that matter!
