I have a gig tonight with my horn band (covers Steely Dan, Tower Of Power, Etc) and it's an outdoor event. It's 90 degrees and high humidity. Gig is from 6:30 to 8:00 PM. I feel that as long as folks wear descent shirts and clean shorts with nice shoes that shorts should be OK. The singer feels strongly that we should wear full long pants stage attire. So what's the consensus of folks that play out here?

Well, do you want to look cool, or feel cool?

Besides, your playing really suffers when heatstroke is setting in...

Interesting, but you have to live with the singer so might want to confer with the group rather than the net.

shorts. did a gig with a long time pro in front of 700 people last summer. a short short skort, and tank top were what i wore except when "in costume' which didn't last long as it was almost 100 degrees.

when the music is so good, nobody really cares.

just don't wear socks and sandals, or running shoes with long socks :thumb:

Just get some nice "dress shorts" and you're good to go.

Not like this though...

Did a gig last month on a hot day. We didn't hit the stage until 10 and it was still scorching hot. In hindsight, we really should have gone for comfort rather than standard stage attire.

Wear a kilt. Make sure you have some hot women at the edge of the stage.

NO FVCKING SOCKS!!

We did a similarly hot gig last summer. There was no question we were wearing shorts, it was a matter of musical survival. I lucked out and got a shade spot, not so lucky was our lead player to my right who had full sun for the first half of the gig. Still, we did alright, much better than if we were fainting from the heat. I'd rather look silly than pass out.

Regardless of whether or not you decide to wear pants, do yourself a favor, and at the very least get some Under Armour heat gear compression shorts. You'd be surprised just how effective the UA under garments are at keeping you cool.

Tell the singer to go suck an egg & where whatever you want. Or get a bunch of fans so you can at least look cool even if you're not.

Cover band it is OK, you have a built in fan base. I played a picnic last month. I wore shorts=NEVER AGAIN! I need a sharskin jacket+pressed black pants+black tee+black dress shoes. I play better when I have on my ROCK clothes.

A friend of mine saw The Ramones in Oslo around `95. In The scor0ching Sun even they dropped their leatherjackets after 10 minutes. Dress for the weather and make sure to have some water handy
