The tributes also have filler. The LPJ doesn't. The tributes are smooth, just not buffed to a gloss.

Also, my 70's tribute is just 2 pieces, and I believe some standards are also 2 piece. We're talking about the 2013 model tributes here, not the previous 'studio tributes' which were a different model.

I've just been through this to some extent, and have played a fair few 2013 Studios and Tributes.

In my experience the Tributes sound significantly more 'open' than the Studios. To my ears and fingers, the Tribute is a better guitar than the Studio - save your money, buy a third party hard case if it bothers you, and get the tribute in 'burst, ebony or wine red.

However, let's be clear here all of your options are great guitars, so there is no 'wrong' one.

The 2013 Tributes are really nice playing, sounding and overall great guitars. They feel great in your hands. They look awesome, have nice rosewood boards. The ONLY thing I don't like is that the finish chips off/wears off very easily. These guitars get roadworn fast. But really who cares if they play nice.
