Gibson does not ship their guitars with 10-46 gauge strings. They use 9-46 gauge strings coming from the factory[/FONT].

^ I always thought the same. But my SG's owners manual says all Gibson Guitars are factory equiped with "10 guage".. (that's how it's worded anyway). :hmm:

I'm new here and already tired of hearing people telling other people to search before you post , (10-46 De'addario) if you are getting tired of reading the same posts stop reading, I do search the threads but I am not going to spend all day reading a million of them as you have already counted.
IMO new posts are what make a forum interesting.

^ Can't argue with that. Glad someone finally said it!! (I prefer 9's, tho)...:naughty:

10-46 for me. That's what was on the guitar when I bought it, and they always sounded okay to me.

I don't have a definite string preference, but seem to use D'Addarios a lot, probably because they're so readily available. I do have some Ernie Ball Cobalt Slinky strings on hand, though... another guy sent 'em to me after finding out that he wasn't fond of them himself. So every now and then I'll put them on a guitar for something different.

Bloody noobs, digging up four year old posts! :naughty:

(Only joking; it's a case of damned if you do, damned if you don't according to who is doing the judging... :laugh2::laugh2:)

I use 10-46 on my Gibsons and 9-42s on my Fenders.

As I read theese threads I'm always supriced that so many use so light strings.
Maybe its just me but as the energy goes up on a gig the lighter strings just dies instead of getting more sound out of them.
I'm sure that I will get comments in line with. Work on your technique or something like that.
I've tried for sure but the strings that work for me are daddario 11-56. I think that they're made for people playing tuned down to D but they work for me in standard tuning.

Tried a lot of gauges and brands over many years and I am definitely a
9-42 guy now.

As a brand I use Ernie Ball Nickels on all except for one of my Signature T Les Paul's which has Ernie Ball 8-38 fitted.

Thought I would give them a try and have left them on as the Les Paul stills has balls and the fat crunch with this ultra light gauge..but are so nice on the fingers and the bends for me.

This thread is from 2011 so I think the discussion has long since run its course.

I believe gibson used to ship with 10s and now its 9s.

I use anywhere from 10s to 9.5s.
Some guitars have a different feel even with the same string gauge and set-up.

Note that you would have to bend the strings farther if you go with lighter strings.

That is the answer after all, Use what's best for you or what you like or have become accustomed to using..

I like Nickle .010"-.046" Gibson Brand Tuned down Half step on my Les Paul
.009"-.042" on the Nighthawk, .011"-.048" on the Blueshawk, .010"-.046" also on the PRS CE22
Nickle is softer than the frets & has a warm vintage tone to boot

.045"-.105" on my 2 Basses Flat Wound Chromes

Hell I forgot about the Ovation, Washburn, Fender, Charvel, Jackson, Peavey & Strat..
I need an SG & TELE!!

On my LPs and my Tele, 10-46.
11-49 on my Explorer in Eb, though I'll switch to 12-52 the next string change and probably go to D Standard or C#
14-68 on the Baritone Flying V :dude:
12-53 on the acoustic guitars

Wound 3rd string on everything :thumb:
