maybe im remembering wrong but I recall when I started playing guitar, ernie ball strings were like $2.39 a pack, then I noticed they went up to about $3.50. I haven't bought strings in about a year so I went to buy some new strings yesterday and a pack of ernie ball regulars were $5.49. am I crazy or has the price gone up a lot recently?

I use elixir which are more expensive, but they last forever. A regular set of EBs would last maybe 2 days if I'm lucky.

I pay around $6 for DR Blues. $45 for a box of 10+2 "free" Slinkies on Amazon.

I buy in bulk, Now that I'm not flipping guitars I don't go through as many. Checking around, EB's seem to all be 5 bucks or over.

John Pearce for my Blueridge acoustic. 9 something a pack, but my girl's worth it.

Bought an acoustic last night and went to grab a few sets of extra slinky’s, but damn... $5.49 a pop. I did well on the guitar, so I didn’t want to push my luck. Skipped.

Just bought a pack of DAddario Chromes a couple months back, worked out to nearly $10 per string.

I play Elixir's too. I get 'em by the case, 9's for the Fenders & 10's for everything else. It averages about $8/pack. Well worth the price. They actually will last longer than they can hold tone. But, depending on use, I change them about every 7-8 weeks. More often when I play out, since I'll always put a new set on before a gig.

Like you, I can ruin uncoated strings when I take them out of the package. They will start rusting while I am installing them.

I haven't played Slinky's in 25+ years.
