My Dr. says I should find another job.

I had two different health screenings last week.

On Monday, I had the first one while I was at work.
I had stage two hypertension.

On Friday, my second day away from work, I had my second health screening. 118/76.

I wonder what caused the huge difference?:hmm:

BP test results can vary widely within a few minutes based on how long you have relaxed, if you have a case of "white coat" syndrome (fear of doctors/tests etc.)

To get a better idea of what's going on get your own BP cuff for under $50 and test at different times of the day and keep a record.

Maybe it's not a good idea to get your blood pressure checked right after doing something like this.

I don't like working on a ladder, let alone one of these things.

BP. fluctuates,so an accurate assessment would be to wear a monitor for 48 hrs.

I discovered i had high BP. years ago.I measured it at work,as i have access to fine gear.Way Too high. Its also familial. Its in part what pushed me into a regular(daily) exercise habit.I dropped 60 lbs over 3 yrs. and have maintained it ever since, through my 5th decade.(the weight loss and the exercise). It worked. No drugs.BP normal again.Around the clock.

Any kind of stressful situation or environment no longer elevates my pressure. The cardio conditioning has changed the way my body reacts to stress...for the better. It wasn't like that before the weight loss and the cardio conditioning. This is all ime only.It may not work for you,but i figued at the time what have i got to lose,a lifetime of BP meds?

Bottom line, unless you are ready to withdraw from life, stress is there,so follow ur doctors advice to lower your pressure,if it turns out to be real.More measuements are in order to see if your high BP was a one-off.

And follow-up to see if its working,if you embark on any form of treatment. The drug route is the easy way.The exercise thing is a lot of work, but the rewards are much greater down the road.

Get your doctors clearance to go ahead if you embark on an exercise program.Make sure you have no hidden life-threatening issues, like cardiac disease, or aneurysm's(brain or body). Both of these could become issues(aneurysm rupture) under stress, because the walls of aneurysms are typically weaker than normal arterial wall.Ischemic cardiac disease speaks for itself.
No point if you drop dead on that first run.

So take BP meds like everyone else and just block out everything out.

It's what's done.

There is no such thing as average blood pressure... the average changes for everyone. For some people it is naturally high and for others it is naturally low. You need to find what is natural for you and use that as a baseline. And has been already said, it can change tremendously over the course of a day and naturally tends to go up around whitecoats and in other stressful environments.

Stress in and of itself is not bad... its how you deal with it that matters. Learn to breathe and you'll be fine. :dude:

Every one has stress, not long term stress. Long term stress is a product of the new western civilization. When I fall into a long stress full time my MS gets freaky and I get put in the hospital. When my wife left, my BP went to the level of a teenager and no MS flair ups. Long term stress kills lots of men, heart attacks and strokes. You need to remove it or die.

My doc is really pushing hard for me to take BP and anti statins.
Nope......but I did let him give me some sleeping pills to knock my ass out at night.

Sleep is good. I never get enough since I've got to get up in the middle of the night.

I'm not stressing out too much this week - I'm on vacation again.:thumb:

The main thing I'm gonna stress out about is what pedal should I get to hook up both of my Prosonics together.:)

Hey meat..i take meds for blood pressure. Don't let that sh*t kill you. It truely can. My wife, which is here no longer as everyone knows, could go from a high of 180(stroke level) to a low of 45 over. Most people aren't even eyes open with a low of 50.
Then she had a massive heart attack and was taken away from me.
Don't let that happen to you brother. You don't want to drive'n a wheel chair with a pencil in your mouth.
Just say'n..

So you're genuinely having BP issues, but won't control it with the generally accepted meds?

This is another issue.

BP meds are the last step I take with a patient with high blood pressure. Henry is right, that comes with it own bunch of trouble. Next in line would be the little blue crank it pill.
No of low salt. Take a TM or biofeedback class or therapy.

I'm going to try the diet/exercise routine instead of pills. I don't like to take any meds if I can help it.

I also haven't been taking enough time away from work - I'm changing that.

All I need to do is make it through another 1441 days, and I'll be gold.(Retirement):fingersx::fingersx:

I could literally feel my nerves vibrating yesterday I am so stressed out. It felt like a short circuit. That's when my wife texted me "My mom is here. Where are you? Are you coming down? They're asking about you!".
That helped.

That is great! Most of us are screwed, chewed and tattooed by the time we get pooped out. Retire to something, I know of some guys that took that long walk to no place and dropped dead in the course of a year.

If I may suggest...go to your pharmacy and speak with the pharmacist, and get a recommendation on a home use blood pressure unit. Get the best one you can afford. Start using it daily in the comfort of your home. Record the readings and after a while you'll get an idea of your general bp range. Bring these readings to your doctor, and let him/her assess the numbers.

A bp unit was suggested to us after mom suffered a massive stroke (occluded carotid artery) in 2007. Though she was on meds before, the consistent home readings helped our doctor make adjustments to her meds. She's still here, but not the same person.
