Hi all :)
I posted about this in our FANTASTIC luthiers section when I needed a bit of help.
Those guys really came through for me and I love them all.

So, what is this then?
I wanted a sonic blue big headstock Strat and after not really finding what I wanted I decided to make one.
I wanted it to have a bit of mojo but not be a relic

Specs:
70's neck - 3 bolt as was the fashion at the time :D
Fender 69 Custom Shop pickups
Callaham aged trem / bridge
Kluson F Style tuners
Gotoh aged jack plug surround
Custom made body in nitro

This was my very first soldering project so I am really happy that it all works.
Things left to do:
Neck has a slight back bow that needs addressing, I have a plan of action.
I have ordered a new nut and various items like a straight edge and nut files to help me set this up, as this is very much a learning project as well as a working guitar

Pics!

So far, loving it.
Beefier neck than I am used to, and can't wait to sort the neck properly, but oh my it sounds insanely good!

That came out great! Killer specs and vibe. You must be psyched.

Yes I am really happy so far, I have a little way to go before it is perfect, but every step I learn something new so it's a genuine win win situation. It already sounds ridiculous through my Twin, just lush!

Looks great! I don't mind the big headstock, but I would never go with a 3 point neck if I had the choice! It tends to wobble with 11's and big bends.

How are you liking the 69's? Gonna put a set in my strat when I have more time this summer.

Rosewood and blue are a great combo.
Thanks!
Yeah I wanted that exact combo, or I am just not interested, stupid as that sounds, it's the reason I ended up making it as I was struggling to fins sonic blue in nitro, rosewood board and big headstock off the shelf

I got the 3 bolt just because I have never had one, this whole guitar is sort of an experiment / learning platform. If it all went wrong I would be OK with that, luckily it's turned out great.

I'll definitely post if I have any bad experiences with the 3 bolt, but wanted to have one myself to judge it, there is a lot of chatter online about them and I was super curious.

The 69s so far are very very good - I haven't had chance yet to really dime the thing, that will be in a week or so at rehearsals, but so far they sound VERY stratty, which is exactly what I want, they are full and warm near the neck and quacky in the bridge.
Sort of a 'no surprises' sound, but a really nice, crystal clear version of that

I think in most instances it won't be problem. There is just a slightly lower tolerance for extreme forces but I guess most people aren't even in situations where this might actually cause problems. But when in a situation where you can actually choose the specs, a.k.a. when building your own, I'd just never choose the 3 bolt when a 4 bolt is available. Other than that, who cares, a good strat is a good strat and as long as the neck doesn't wobble, who cares how many bolts there are.

I think the 69 pickups are hate it or love it, there is no middle road :laugh2:

I'll see how I get on, if it becomes and issue I'll replace it, it's got 9s on which I prefer on longer scales guitars so hopefully it'll be good :)
