Hey guys,

So i have an LP Studio 2013 and the strap button near the neck has a problem, basically the hole is completely shredded, you can just slip the screw in and out, i have no idea how it happened but it has, so i can't play standing up right because that hole is now useless, what do i do now? Drill another hole?

Cheers

Break off a wood toothpick in the hole, put a few drops of wood glue on the screw threads and re-screw the button back on the guitar. This is by far the easiest and most common fix.

Ohhh and wait 24 hours for the glue to cure before using the strap button.

The "toothpick fix" is a common one; here's how I have always done it...

First off use hardwood toothpicks - no softwood matchsticks!

Dip several toothpicks in glue and push them into the hole. Use as many as you can to fill the hole (maybe 2 or 3). Snip off the ends that stick out of the hole and let the glue dry. When it is dry, put the screw back. Use a screw that is a little longer than the standard one. If the standard is 1", use a 1 1/4". Always lubricate screw threads with a little candle wax or bar soap.

This should all work, but the strap button screw is obviously critical and the very best way to fix it is to drill out and dowel the hole.

You should fill it with wood and glue and redrill. Install straplocks

+1 for the toothpick method, works wonders! Most holes require 2 toothpicks but I've seen some that require 3. Push them in the strap hole as far as they will go, then break them off at the edge of the strap hole. I drip a few drops of wood glue into the hole and let it dry then reinstall the strap button. I've done this on several LP's and I have never had a failure afterwards, knock on wood.
