Storage, display, but still using them.

I bought a DRS rack, which are made by Kauer. Pricey, but I think it’s worth it. They’re well-built, have some cool options, and look really classy. The neck pads come unglued, but that’s because California won’t allow real adhesives. A dab of Gorilla Glue and it’s done.

When I am home, I leave them on the rack so I can grab whatever catches my eye. I live in earthquake country, so I’m moving away from hanging racks. A slow roller can really make things swing.

When I am on the road (sometimes for months), they go in their cases in as stable of a climate as I have in my house. I don’t lean them against exterior walls or put them near HVAC vents. Since I live in a semi-arid climate that sees a decent temperature shift during the year, I am considering a whole-house humidifier, but that’s a ways down the line.

I bought an old gun case and converted it. I do only have one guitar though. I’ve got a couple athletic cats and dogs in the house I don’t have to worry about anymore. I play the guitar every day and this has been a great solution for me.

Dude I gotta admit that I’ve always been a fan of norlins guitars but never caught on to the silverburst. However, this example looks pretty damn good if I say so myself. Also I’ve also wanted to do this with an old gun cabinet. I kinda thought I was unique and creative for that but I guess you beat me to it:laugh2:

Question for Les Paul owners - Has anyone had the problem of the LP’s case (chainsaw case in my case, no pun intended) cracking the Bridge PU knob? This is why my LPs live in stands while others cycle thru stands and cases depending on what I am doing.

I own 8 guitars. I tossed all the cases into storage and I wallmount all my guitars in a closet. Been doing this for 10 years, never one issue.

Hercules has a good track record with their padding compound.
No, they don’t. Starting around 2013 many Hercules stands started turning to a gel-like state. They were good about replacing the stands as they knew it was an issue, but I’ve yet to hear of anyone receiving a dime for guitars damaged due to their stands.

I've got stands, hangers and one nice single display case - have never had damage to a guitar from any of them. The stands and wall hangers are of all sorts - singles, multiples (up to a floor stand that holds 6) expensive and cheap, name brand and off brand. I did have a clip on electronic tuner (Planet Waves perhaps?) damage the headstock finish on my LP Studio Deluxe. Pissed me off, too.

I’ve been hanging guitars for over 20 years with zero issues. Hercules hangers only. I like to display them. The top two are in my music room. The bottom one is my office.

One thing I would keep in mind with hangers or a glass display case is sun exposure.

I kept my accoustic guitar on a stand for years. The back of the guitar faced the bedroom window. As a result, the back of the guitar is pale and washed out looking. The front looks great. Now most of the time I keep my guitars in their cases.

If I ever buy or build a display case, I would either buy UV protective glass or (more likely) make the doors solid wood so as to keep the sun off of my expensive guitars.

I designated 1 bedroom for my playing, there I built a floor rack that holds most of my guitars the others on stands 1 in case. I dehumidify in summer and humidify in winter to keep 45 to 50 percent all year I think my guitars are loving it because they always sound great and keep tune for some time. Placing them in different rooms around I feel would be a bit of work always wondering if they are to dry or to humid. O bedroom has no furniture strictly guitar stuff man cave lol.

I forgot to mention that DRS says their padding will not negatively react with nitro finishes. Most of my finishes are poly, but it's nice to know.

I was really wanting the Bravo 7 with the D36 drawer and BT7 benchtop, just because it was an elegant solution. However, $1000 for the combo before shipping gave me pause.

I use the commercial quality hanging system from String Swing. Looks good. No damage.

If I tried that setup I'd have destroyed tops/backs on every guitar after the first earthquake. Shame, because I really like having mine hanging. Probably going to pull the hooks off the wall in the next couple months and fill in the drywall holes.

Find yourself a competent cabinetmaker and I reckon they'd do it cheaper (and to your measurements)
