I have an epi standard pro but the push pulls were replaced with normal 500k pots. Everything was fine till 4 months ago, where the pickup selector started doing a crack when selecting either neck, bridge or middle position (it has done it ever since 4 months ago) :( also like twice a month the neck pickup is not working, doesn't get any volume or sometimes it sounds too low, once happened the same with the bridge. This happens in less regularity (i have took it to my tech 3 times before, he said it was a pickup switch problem and replaced 3 times now!) Also when turning down either a volume or a tone knob it makes a crack noise like if i were connecting the cable to the guitar with the amp on. I cleaned the electronics, removed dust, etc. The soldering is pretty good. I don't know what to do help!

Sounds like a faulty Switch to me. When it happens how do you get it to work again? I have the same issue on a guitar that I built, the contacts of the switch go "dull" with some sort of tarnish but if i switch back and forth through all the positions a few times it starts working again, though this does not help during a gig. The affected pup would normally be the pup that is not selected when the guitar is not being used, as a quick fix you could try leaving the guitar in the center position when unused as this would have a mechanical connection on both switch contacts not allowing air and damp to get to the face's of said contacts. I need to replace my switch, I suggest you do too, they are cheap to buy and easy to install. Be sure to buy a good quality one though, many people use switch craft with no issues.

Cheers G.

Check the solder joins on the pots. Pics of the control cavity might help.

My thought as well. Crappy solder joints can send even the most skilled tech on a snipe hunt.

What it boils down to is this. If you replace a part and the problem persists, that wasn't the problem. OK, maybe you have really bad luck and replaced a bad switch with another bad switch (it happens), but to experience the same exact symptoms.....that just don't jive.

I had such a problem with my neck pup on my Tribute Plus.
They said "defective pick-up" and they replaced the pick-up (under warranty), since it works great.
