From This Day in Music.com

2006, readers of Total Guitar magazine voted the guitar solo by Jimmy Page in Led Zeppelin’s 'Stairway To Heaven' as the greatest guitar solo of all time. The 1971 track was voted ahead of tracks by Van Halen, Queen, Guns N' Roses, Jimi Hendrix, Metallica and The Eagles by its UK readers.

It's also a really easy song to play, I am one of the few that I have seen dare to play it live though and not suck at it. But then again I have been playing that song since the late 70's myself.

Stairway is a great song.

If you lived through the 70's it is arguably up there if not the greatest song.

Meh, it's not bad. The solo isn't the best solo I've ever heard. There are much better IMO.

Solo is extremely LONG when you are trying to use the song to teach Metaphor to high school kids....alhtough, it is a decent one.

Page has been one of my heroes since I was a kid in the 70's, I have spent years learning Zep songs and practiced endless hours to get them right. I can get the sig licks but tend to put my own little fills into a lot of the songs more often these days.

When I need to I can hit them note for note, but it gets tiresome after playing some of those songs for 30 years.

So what would you all pick as the best guitar solo ever?

The solo was improvised......on a Tele.

I know, broke my heart too.

I'm a die hard Jimmy Page fan, ....

...... there was always love for Page, regardless of the fickle magazines.

After Zep IV was released I quit reading 'Rolling Stone' mag because the reviewer trashed the whole lp calling it 'inferior tripe'. Haven't read it since, still have my original vinyl copy of Zep IV.
