I enjoyed his books. Lived life on his terms. Interesting character, to say the least.

I've run into H.A. numerous times on the road, never had a problem.

IMHO Booze fighters are the ones who always start shit.

Someone commented to me that he thought the Boozefighters were a 12-step club.

Ya... never more than 12 steps from a bar.

Robert Patrick (Terminator, X-Files, Chuck, NCIS, Sopranos, SoA, Scorpion, etc...) was (maybe still is?) a member of a chapter here in the LA area

Are they drinking while they are riding? That's nuts. I guess it's a bit different on a Harley tho...?

There is a lot of romanticism around bikers, free spirited tough guys of honor, blah blah blah...
While it is true for some, most of them are pure assholes that have caused mayhem
for a lot of people and left not much good behind them.
There is a lot of "dog eat dog" in that lifestyle.
And drugs distribution and related crimes don't help either.

The Boozefighters were another Club started right after WW2 by GIs that had lived on the edge for a couple years during the war.
Drinking and raising hell to treat their PTSD.

It's long past time that we as a country stop celebrating every miscreant in society.

AFAIK, the Boozefighters were the original "Biker Gang" that were the cause of the ruckus in Hollister, in 1947.

Life magazine exploited the situation and made it out to be much worse than it really was.

Apparently, this guy wasn't even a biker and the photo was staged...

Amazingly enough, to this day some people still believe the Media and watch the news on a regular basis. That's why we can't have nice things.
