In another thread someone mentioned artists they associated with Texas and I thought of the one who made me think of Texas the most wasn't even from there. But it made me want to listen to one of my all time favourite songs which gave me the idea for this thread.

Can anyone think of some great songs that have sequels to them by the same artist? Not simply mentioning a past song, but a true sequel based on the same story. I could only think of two that fit the bill and the first is actually a trilogy. I'm sure there must be others out there?

And a great combined performance of another one of my favourites

I'm just listening to the eagles dedperado album, it seems there are lots of sequels in there, but then it's a concept album so I guess it doesn't count.

I guess Meat Loaf would fall into this category with his Bat out of Hell then Bat Out of Hell II: Back into Hell follow up. Still though, I think that was more of a case of Mr. Loaf wanting to cash into the success of his first Bat Out of Hell album.

I should mention that they should not be part of the same album...

I've heard A Boy Named Sue has some interesting prequels and sequels.

Silverstein also wrote one of Johnny Cash's best known whimsical hits, "A Boy Named Sue." Other songs co-written by Silverstein include "the Taker" by Waylon Jennings and "On Susan’s Floor” by Gordon Lightfoot and a sequel to "A boy named Sue" called: "Father of a boy named Sue" which is less known, but he performed the song in the "Johnny Cash show" on television.

Rush had Fear which was actually done in reverse order, kind of.

Witch Hunt appeared first and it was Part III. Then came The Weapon which was Part II. This was followed by The Enemy Within which was Part I. But then they did Freeze which was Part IV.

These songs do not follow a story line but, rather, are all based on a central theme which is, obviously, fear.

How about Coheed and Cambira's entire catalogue?
I've not listened to it all but as far as I'm aware it's all based on 2 character's they made up and there's graphic novels to acompany the albums

I have no idea who they are but that sounds very interesting! I think I'll have to check that out! :thumb:

I love all kinds of music but story based songs have always been among my favourites. Sitting back and listening to someone tell a story that you see unfold in your mind takes a special skill to me.

Police, Synchronicity I and Synchronicity II?

Are they related thematically? I don't even know. Synchronicity II is in the running for best ever Police song (IMO).
