Some Weird Paintings I Got from My Grandpa's

So, we went over to my Grandpa's a while back to help him install an answering machine, and while we were over there we went down to his basement. We don't get to see him very often, so I wanted to check it out. I had pointed out some weird can art statue that he had, and he was telling me that he had gotten two statues and some paintings from a guy's wife some years back.

The story she told him was that the guy was a complete recluse and somewhat crazy. So much so that his wife actually had him committed, and after that (or it might have been after he died) his wife sold some of his paintings.

He had a huge stack of paintings from this guy, but he let me take a few because I found them, and the story of the guy, very interesting. They're not the greatest technical paintings in the world, but I like them a lot. They're fascinatingly creepy, and the story of the guy only adds to the interest factor, for me.

So, yeah, I know we have some guys here that like paintings, so here they are. :dude:

There's also one he did of a clown, but the picture didn't come out very well.

I have no idea, and forgot to ask, what they're painted on, but it's weird. It's got a real bumpy texture, and since the paintings are kind of old and the corners are roughed up, it looks like some kind of particle board. You can kind of see what I'm talking about, with regards to the texture, in the second and third paintings. I don't know if it's a common thing to paint on in the art world, but they're slightly heavy and bumpy. If that rings a bell for anybody I'd love to know what they were painted on.

I bet Skintaster and Mal will dig them.

Might be hardboard, quite a good cheap medium.

The first one? Wow!

The other two? Meh.

Malk needs to see the first one.

Honestly, the middle one is my favorite out of those. The first one is awesome, but that eyeless thing floating in the sky is just awesome. :D

To each our own. #1 stands out to me as head-and-shoulders above the other two.

But all three of them are quite bizarre.

For sure. :thumb:

I forgot to mention that they're double-sided, although the sides that I showed, in my opinion, are superior. I'll take pictures of the other sides and the aforementioned clown one in a few minutes.
