Gibson finally releases almost all the USA production LPs in lefty and in great colors but now it seems they all have 60's necks. At least that's what it says for the Std, Studio and Mahogany Satin. It looks like the only USA guitar to have the 50's is the traditional. Sure glad I got my 7 when I did.
2012 Std owners, how thin is the new neck ? Thin like old LP classic thin or thin like older std 60's, which was not much different from the std 50's.

I've felt some 60's neck profiles that I don't mind a bit, but some of them just seem too shallow. They cramp my hand while bending, etc. I really hope they still offer somewhat of a variety even though they're all labeled the same. On second thought, I always buy used guitars, so this probably doesn't affect me much. :)

The new 2012 standard profiles are really not like the thin 60's necks. I hate those but the new asymmetrical neck is actually pretty comfortable on the new standards. Go feel one for yourself you may be pleasantly surprised as I was and they are nothing like the slim 60's necks. I love the fatter 50's necks and love it on my Trad +.

Thats the thing with Gibsons. You NEED to play'em before you buy them. Your crazy if you don't. There is so much of a spectrum , from brightness to neck shapes of the same model guitars. I'm a fat neck guy, but I had a 61 RI SG that just felt great even though it was a 60's neck. I've played others that have sucked. depends on who did the final sanding. I've played R7's that were just Unplayable Telephone poles to amazing R9 feeling ones. Gotta play it first. If your lucky get to a store with several of the same models. Might be worth a long drive if your dropping $2-3 Grand IMO. :hmm:

The new 2012 standard neck is in between the 60's and 50's. It really should not be called a 60's, but I guess Gibson needed to differentiate it from the one that was on the 2008 standard so people know it changed. IMO it's what the 2008 asymetrical neck should have been since it appeals to both 60's and 50's neck players (of course there will still be those who won't like it).

I don't know why Gibson just won't make neck shapes optional for people to pick like 50s, 60s, 08s, and 12s style neck. Why bother cutting options down and treating people like dogs geez

I would deeply appreciate it if Gibson supports more models with "half-trunk" necks. I played the new Standard and hated the neck, I played this nice looking Mahogany Satin and hated the neck, I played a Tribute 60 and thought of a match in my hands.

I love the neck on my Studio 50's Trib, and the fat neck on my '99 SG, and the one on my Greco '70's Custom copy...and I'm thinking of a Trad Pro for my birthday late this summer...I guess I won't be buying anything new any more anyway...

How the hell did I ever get to be 65??!!??

I like the 50's neck on my satin LP Junior. It's got more beef to it than my LP Classic but it's not a tree-trunk either. They're calling it a 50's neck but it may be a stretch. Either way it feels perfect and my hand doesn't cramp up. I haven't played the newer juniors with the 60's neck.

Good thing I mostly buy used. I love the 50's necks, although the slim (I think they have a 60's?) neck on my Elitist SG is killer. I love my pauls to have very thick necks though.

being lefty a barely being able to play les pauls i picked up a righty r9 in a pawn shop and i was a bit surprised of how thin it was. i thought it would be huge, but it was almost exactly the same as my mim strat which i think is just a tad too thin. if that was around perfect for me then id hate to feel a 60s neck. so looks like im going to be stuck with a twig for a neck unless i get a trad which have shitty color options for leftys

Like thexmadxtopxhatter said. It's called "marketing". They do stuff like this to get people to look towards the more expensive RI's, if they want more options.
