So my wife walks in and nonchalantly informs me she has cancer...

Best of luck to you both. Cancer is no fun, but it's able to be fought. My grandma was diagnosed very late with lung cancer (Doctors kept calling it flu) so it took her. But my grandpa has probably had cancer 3 or 4 times and he's still kicking :applause: Keep your head up good sir, and know we are all thinking of you and your wife. :)

Wishing you the best of luck.
I know what it is like, having lost a friend to cancer, and am now losing 2 family members.
You and your wife are lucky you caught it early.
My aunt, cousin and friend weren't so lucky. :(
Take care sir and God Bless.

She just got off the phone with the doctor she works for. He's in Chicago dealing with his own family medical issues but did speak to the dermatologist she saw today, and neither of them are overly concerned over it. Candice seems calm.

It's just that freakin' word... It's giving me shivers. I've dealt with it with family already. Not fun.

Well that's encouraging anyway mate.

Best wishes to you guys.

Kaiser Permanante.

She works part time in the Infertility Clinic. Through that, her and I, my grown son (her stepson) Her two grown children, and their 4 children all have no monthly payment $5 copay $5 prescription medical insurance.

Kinda amazing deal, really...

Try to get Dr. Burns at the Mohs clinic in Rancho Cordova. He is the head of department and an excellent surgeon. I was in the room the entire time.

For what it's worth, the odds are with you. It doesn't make it any easier to sit
and wait, but chances are it's the more common Basal. I've had two spots removed
and from the looks of it, I've got to go back for a few more here soon (damn Florida
sun). And I'm not 'light skinned'.

I know the feeling though because when it's the wife or the kids, it ain't the same as
being us. They could tell me tomorrow I've got "x" amount of time and I'd be ok. If
they tell me the wife needs a cast, I'm speechless for a week. Prayers are going out
for you both.

Yeah... the docs are all conversing between themselves saying it's the one that's not as dangerous. They seem confident. It's weird that they took as big a plug out of her as they did, but still kept her tattoo intact.

Besides her stitches hurting we didn't really speak of it today. She's calm cool and collected, and I'm taking her stance on it as much as I can.

Her doctor (the one she works for not the dermatologist) called me on my cell while she was working today, to tell me not to worry overly about it. He's in Chicago where his wife's mother just had a stroke, but he knew I would be worried. I was glad he called.

Doc is an amazing guy. He's an OB/Gyn, but is also on the surgery QA board. He's has made house calls here to check on my son when he was sick and to stitch my Labrador up when she ripped her belly open jumping a fence, the fact that he's deathly afraid of dogs notwithstanding. (He showed up with a suture kit, a bottle of lidocaine, and a plate full of hamburgers) He knows every Kaiser surgeon in NorCal. I trust him implicitly. He told me today that he will make sure any cutting that needs to be done on my wife will be by him or by someone he selects.

Anyways I ramble... Point is she's in great hands, and works with people who care about her and will make sure she gets the best care possible. If they say not to worry, I'm inclined to go with that, most of the time.

Thanks much to all for the positive thoughts and words. It means a lot! Thank you!
