Ever driven an electric? They are cool as hell.
In my opinion, electric vehicles are the superior technology in every respect (edit: outside of range, currently), but the major manufacturers wouldn't be making these moves without the powers that be pushing the market in that direction. You don't have to be a luddite to hold that opinion. Subsidies, future emission requirements, carbon credits, etc., take your pick.

That doesn't mean that EV's aren't bad ass, but there is definitely some strong-arming going on. I just hope infrastructure keeps up with the pressure.

i do believe their market share will increase but both of my cars are fairly low mileage and get decent economy,so it will be a while before i adopt the new tech.

You can easily say the same thing about ICE vehicles- how the infrastructure is in place, how the industry is subsidized, how automakers have been bailed out, how protective tarrifs have been imposed…. how the oil industry dismantled public transportation in the 50s, how urban planning has been built around the needs of personal vehicles. Today, this is taken for granted— no one even notices. Loads of tax dollars subsidize the entire infrastructure.

I see no problem with inventivizing disruptive technologies. Further, the market is global— no just in the US. I find it a bit disingenuous to drive a coal-powered electric, for example. Or to rely on unstable grids like Texas. But those are other topics. Back at my parents’ place in the midwest, windmills are everywhere.

Not arguing with any of that, just pointing out the reality of the situation. Government dollars are shifting to electric and the automakers are following suit. Otherwise they'll find themselves out of business in 30 years.

I saw one about two weeks ago and was surprised at the size of it.
While it looked kind of big and bulky on the pics I had seen
the "real one" is much smaller than I thought.
And looks way better too.

I guess the name didn't please everyone but the car really makes sense.

I've seen a few of them on the freeway and they just make me think of a mid-sized crossover.
They really did miss an opportunity to use Galax-E, because there's no way in hell it's a Mustang.

they can't handle what they have out there now.
We just had a Flex Alert yesterday.
Temperatrures were 10 degrees below what they had been the last week, and they still called it and asked everyone to turn their AC up 5 degrees.

The powers that be over here in the UK have been flexing their muscles on the future increase as BEV's sales start to ramp up here.
All home chargers have to be of the 'Smart' variety & from May 2022 new measures are to be put in place so they can remotely switch them off in peak demand times for up to nine hours/day. :wow:Good job I fitted my own "Dumb" 7kw home charger myself. Bollocks to the men in suits :dude:

You're right.... choice to go out of business if they only sell ICE vehicles in the future due to government mandates.

They might be cool as hell but I'm not paying forty thousand plus for a vehicle that can mechanically total itself as soon as the warranty runs out with a $25,000 repair. (well documented by owners)

If they're that great stop the fat government checks to buyers and start charging a road use tax like everyone else pays. Pintos and Yugos would sell again with enough honey in the pot.

Finally there's a reason manufacturers are fighting the right to repair act. The average ICE vehicle on the road is 12.5 years old. Tesla and the rest know getting their vehicle to that average will require a bend over trip to the dealership and want to keep it that way.

Let the free market decide what's best. Someday EV's might be the way to go. That day isn't here yet.

i still love my camaro.outdated ICE tech,only 2 doors and all.and wifes honda civic coupe is pretty cool too.

the free market has decided. there are no federal incentives on Tesla, there haven't been for over a year.

they're still selling like hot cakes.

so even if the rebates weren't there, people would still buy them. we know this because they are.

in order to discuss the rebates in any greater detail, would require crossing the lines drawn in the sand by our forum rules and regs.

oh, and do not drive one. you'll be hosed.

Agreed, but Tesla wouldn't have gotten to that point, and most likely wouldn't even exist, without the rebates and carbon credits propping them up. Both sides of this debate seem to be in denial to some extent. It's great technology that had some massive help. It is what it is.

each mfg is getting the same help, tesla just started earlier. i don't know that i'd hang their existence on the fed tax credits though. maybe, i can't say it's not.

the way things are shaping up, they may be getting more help down the road here in a few months. but that new help will still be less than the other mfgs will be getting due to the stipulation regarding union labor, which i fully support frankly. i couldn't do what i do without the unions, that's for sure. granted, i'm not in the car building industry.

i follow this space very closely, i don't think i'm in denial about anything here.
