Before I begin, let me say I was a huge fan of Guns N' Roses back in the day, and still am for the most part. Here are my takeaways (my opinion, YMMV):

1. Axl has a heart of gold despite the fact he is incapable of interacting with others in any way, shape, manner, or form that represents common decency, socially accepted patterns of behavior, or respect for others.

2. At any given moment Slash is exactly 30 seconds away from falling into addiction to anything that can fvck you up, but no problem 'cuz he can kick it by moving on to some other controlled substance and everything is cool.

3. Duff is a pretty cool guy and knows what's up.

4. Even Slash is chasing "Slash Tone" from AFD, and it still eludes him to this day.

Like I said it's my opinion and YMMV , but those are the "big ideas." I hope I didn't spoil it for anyone... :slash:

I hate to break it to you, but much like Santa Clause and reality TV, Slash isn't real.

Yeah, I picked up on that...as the timeline and "story" unfold, he seems to have a habit of contradicting an anecdote or story from earlier in the book. Then again all the self confessed substance abuse probably hasn't left him with a crystal clear memory. That doesn't make it any less any entertaining to read - love, hate, or otherwise...

my eighth grade teacher was friends with duff mckagan back before and when he was in guns and roses. I think she said they went to junior high together then he dropped out or something like that...she told me and my friends some stories. she said she had more stories but she couldn't tell us :laugh2:

I read the book a while ago and it was certainly an interesting read. A lot of cool info there, even if it is all fictional since slash isn't real :laugh2:

Duff's book is a great read as well. I really enjoyed both Duff's and Slash's. Now I wish Axl would write a book...that would be interesting.

Slash's book is really good.

Axl is a guy who seems to have some sort of serious mental disorder. The kind that turns a generally decent person into an anti-social asshole (as opposed to whatever the **** Klaus Kinski had that turned an evil man into a raging psychopath). It sucks that he is the way he is because the impression I got from Slash's book is that when he was 'on' he was a good friend and everybody got excited when that side of him came out.

I couldn't give a flying flip about any of them, so won't be wasting my time reading any of it.

I read the book. As it was interesting to read about some of the inter workings of the band and the rise to fame from the early days, I could have done without the excessive and continual storied of drug abuse. But if you took out all the drug stories the book would have been more of a pamphlet. Book stores could stock this in the self help/ addiction isle instead of the music or bio isles.

This book pretty much sealed the deal on me not reading any more rock bios because of it.

Honestly, the part of the book where he is shadow boxing monsters in Hawaii is maybe one of the best things I have ever read
