I don't frequently come across (non weight relieved) LPs in the sub 8 lbs range but was fortunate enough to acquire this fine example. She is a 2023 Custom Shop 1957 Reissue Double Gold Darkback and weighs just a whopping 7.8 lbs. I haven't purchased a new Gibson since my 2006 R8 (I have several golden era vintage pieces), but this one is what I imagine a "good one" to be. It's loud and super well balanced tonally. It's just stellar. The pickups in this particular guitar are very "airy" and articulate. Running on edge of breakup, with volume knob rolled back a hair is really a sweet spot, especially with the neck pickup. Just had to share!

Love it, but then I would say that as I’ve got an R7 Goldtop Darkback as well - a 2021.

You’re right about that sweet spot. Amp on the edge of breakup with the volume rolled back a touch is just a great sound.

I'm trying to keep from asking for "clips" since I'm probably the last one who's ever going to post one. I'll be going to post the first one and the doomsday meteor wipes out all life before it even hits the internet. So you all will thank me for never posting it, m'kay? :naughty:

Lightweights are great. Never had a sub-8 pounder, but my R9 is 8.25lbs and I love it. Feels super light compared to my LPCs which are both over 9lbs.

Your pics aren’t coming thru for me, so I’ll just assume it looks awesome! ;)

Congrats and HNLWGD!

i reckon thats bang on the weight they were hoping for with the originally intended Spanish cedar. Which they had to forgo, not sure on the reason for the switch to mahog, but it certainly pushed ave weight up a tad.
