Listen to some soul music of the 60's, then listen to some soul music after the start of Sly's band, around the late 60's. There's a big difference. I that's the point/opinion the writer was getting across.

There was soul, R&B, rock and roll, and a lot of other stuff before Sly, then there was integrated music. So no, he didn't influence soul any more than he influenced country, but he took all those different elements and brought out a loud, brash, funky mixture of all of it. Was he the first? Maybe, maybe not, but he was certainly one of the biggest.

I didn't know that Sly Stone put out a country music album.

Just an example. TBH I totally misread your original statement. I think we're agreeing! :laugh2:

One of great things about music(playing and listening) for me is how complex and diverse it is.
....besides sounding good and firing up lots of emotions.

IIRC, when the lawsuit was filed, the court started to collect
the royalties payed out, and put them in trust pending the
outcome of the lawsuit. At least that portion of the money
should be available very quickly.

That MUST have been a complete trip to see. What freakin' energy!!! :dude:

That was only a small portion of the set. The best part, which I can no longer
find on YouTube, was at the end of "Music Lover". Sly leads a Sing-a-long,
and everyone did. You can still hear the audio, and that was a very special
moment in Rock history.
