I hope he gets some sound financial advice and follows it.

I’m so glad that Sly has been vindicated.
I hope he uses the money to make and release some new music.
He certainly is ahead of his time.

He got a judgement.

Let's see if he actually receives a dime. Do the defendants actually have that kind of assets?

I hope he does recover most if not all, and the bloodsucking lawyers don't turn him into a pauper all over again.

The judgement is divided among three defendants - the label that he owns part of (bankrupt) for 2 mil - so he'll most likely never see that; his partner in the label for 2.75 mil, and he apparently has that and more; and another manager for a half mil, who may or may not.

So he should be lifted out of "living in a van" at the very least, as long as he keeps the demons at bay.

(No judgement there - I'm one "Lead me not into Temptation" away from living under a bridge myself.)

Good for him.

Musically, he is considered by some as a genius. I remember reading about the history of soul music. Timeline wise, there is soul music before Sly and the Family Stone, and soul music after Sly and the Family Stone. That's how significantly he influenced it.

I hope he takes it back into the studio and releases the sequel to There's A Riot Goin' On. With all the crap going down in the US, it seems an apt time for such an album.

Vindication. Here's hoping the 2013 bankruptcy filing was not just another ploy to keep him from getting the money he deserves.

Prince should cut him a check too. Just 'cause.

Prince and More.Be an idea for successful entertainers to set up some sort of fund to help those who clearly got screwed, and to whom they all owe a debt of gratitude to for their influences.

There was soul, R&B, rock and roll, and a lot of other stuff before Sly, then there was integrated music. So no, he didn't influence soul any more than he influenced country, but he took all those different elements and brought out a loud, brash, funky mixture of all of it. Was he the first? Maybe, maybe not, but he was certainly one of the biggest.
