Those of you in the know, what are the sleeper Japanese Les Paul copies? I have heard about Tokai, Greco, Burny, Edwards, and Bacchus, but I am wondering if there are equally good Japanese Les Pauls that can be found here in the States for a reasonable sum (say $500).

I have played several other brands than you have listed, played the ones you have listed, and there are several brands I have not yet played.

I would like to play a Navigator, or a Provision but from my limited experience with what I have played, I have come to the conclusion that for my experience, and for my money, Bacchus is the best bang for my buck.
Of course this is only one opinion, and one opinion that I'm sure some are quite tired of but it is still one opinion.

If that qualifies Bacchus for 'sleeper' status, then great but I'm not saying it does, or does not; I don't really care.

It's not meant to be superior, as some great IQed people claim to percieve such matters; it's only one opinion so, hopefully folks won't get their panties all in a crack when they see that I believe Bacchus is the best bang for the buck in guitarville but if they do, then I really don't give a flying **** ............................

everyone's mileage will of course vary ................... no apologies here :laugh2: .......................

I don't think Bacchus qualifies for either of those.
Also, there are many more parameters to intelligence than IQ alone :thumb:

yes, as I stated from my limited experience

personally, unless an individual is extremely lucky, I don't see consistant deals at the $500 level for higher quality, I see those types of deals for the lower end stuff

I would rather spend twice, to three times as much, and receive an awesome guitar, instead of one that isn't half bad for $500

for my $$$$ I want a great guitar, not a so so, avergae POS .................

one man's trash is another man's treasure & one man's treasure is another man's trash; it's all a two way street

everyone's mileage may vary ....................

6 months ago there was a gretsch, fender, epiphone (visitors not mine) and gibson laying side by side on the floor and he wizzed on the epiphone :)

if someone comes to the front door he's tail wagging wanting to come out & play but one day about 4 months ago an indian came to the door selling something and he barked and bared the teeth in a very aggressive way :)

whenever I get pulled over by the cops he barks uncontrollably at them.

these all came naturally. Can't teach a dog good habits like that

You have the $$$$$.

Happy for ya.

I don't and many others here don't, either.

My level of playing doesn't require much, but I have a killer Burny for under your "twice or three times as much."

And my opinion? The OP should take your advice on a Burny RLG-50, mid 1980's model.

I don't think RLG-50's are $500 guitars anymore... especially on ebay.

according to one, or two folks here (depending on mitigating factors) those can be had for ~$500 :thumb: so, folks need to knock their selves out on those, when available :thumb: ...............
