Come on man!

The guy can smoke a cigarette and play guitar at the same time - now THAT takes talent ;)

Who am I to judge the guy -he plays guitar far better than I do, lol

I brought a thread back from the dead for Halloween

Trick or treat

Slashs appeal was that he wasn't one of those pointy-neon-guitar-makeup-wearing-wankers. Yea I know he used the BC Rich once in a while, and you can find old pics of him with eye liner, but 99% of the time it was his LP, T shirt, and jeans. Complete opposite of most of the glam fruit cakes of the time.

And this pissed off all those glam shred clones. As if, "How dare some regular looking (relatively) dude who doesn't shred come in here and take my lead guitar job?"

Cuz you look like a complete peter puffer and your billion note scale excercises sound like shit!
I would much rather listen to November rain or Sweet Child than than Yngwie or other shred acts.

Being able to covey your message, and make it sing, with fewer notes is a separate skill all it’s own. Like B.B. King. Gary Moore was a master of all of it.

HALLOWEEN NECRO!!! :slash:I love it!!!

I started reading this thread from the beginning when I saw it necro’d back up, but quickly gave up. The OP’s premise sounded a bit “shrill” itself (to borrow a word from his post that started this thread), so I gave up on it pretty quickly. Anyway, you can put me in the Slash fan column. AFD was, and still is, a killer album. literally all the GnR stuff that came after that album paled by comparison. I personally don’t put GnR down as a legendary band because of this. AFD a legendary album? Yes. But not the band as a whole. That said, the body of work Slash has done since GnR speaks for itself. Impressive stuff from Slash’s Snakepit to his solo album with all the guest singers to Velvet Revolver to the great albums with Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators. In fact, aside from AFD’s epicness, I much prefer Slash’s work with Myles to anything else he did with Guns (or anyone else). Just sayin’….

Slash is the only one who made it out of Guns who went on to really do anything of notice. I mean, seriously, name one other guitar player who doesn’t also sing that has thrived as a solo attraction anywhere near to the level that Slash has. If there’s one out there, I haven’t seen him. To say it’s all corporate hype is BS of the first order of magnitude. That kind of hype might get you a boy band flash in the pan for a couple years, or a pop princess… It doesn’t get you a relatively shy, non-singing, grungy-looking axe-slinger for 30+ years. Ha! I mean come on, the proof is in the putting! There’s plenty of acts and artists out there that have had huge success that I just don’t get (or care for)… but seriously, just because I don’t get them doesn’t mean their success and fame is somehow manufactured and illegitimate. It’s just a matter of different strokes.

Anyway, Axl is weird and nothing he’s done since Guns has amounted to anything (and his non-Slash version of Guns was tolerated at best (if not outright shunned)). In short, Axl needs Slash… Slash does not need Axl. If you’re a fan of guitar rock and haven’t taken the time to listen to Slash with Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators, I highly encourage to do so. Rock on and rant over. :slash:

I'm Gen X - I remember when AFD first came out. It was a hard hitting CD - it was awesome. Or was it on cassette tape back then, I forget... LoL
