Guess this deserve its own thread.

A few things that bothers me about Gibsons version is not the small things like 192p axial poly capacitors vs polypropelene.
Or the 5 vintage mushrom bushings with one 90s vs 6 gotoh.
Its the color and lack of burst. Why not try harder?

Sanding sealer on

Test shot pre fading june 2014 no wet sanding

Test shot post fading aug 2014

@seymour duncan a couple of years ago.
Real Derrig almost pin stripe rev chevron in this angle
Not just thick flames as most believe
And lots of action both horizontal and lateral.

Here are 2 pictures.
Both are off in color.
But in late 86 its vibrant and burst is there. (Robert Johns book contain the original in correct color.

In 88 it had faded / washed out a bit.
And in 2014 the burst is still visable.

OCD-style replica made of a real afd vos.

Sneak peak already posted of the body laquer color matching.
Headstock with real checking.

Full 86 spec.
Sprauge 192p 5% 0.022uf 600v axial capacitors

Small example of control cavity vs the real deal when Andy Brauer did some work on it.

Gotoh bridge and correct material for wheels and screws
1985-1992 gotoh NOTE logo and screw differences

1960-1970 double ring tuners

1960-1970 reflectors

Dimarzio centralab 500k pots
1986 vintage Seymour duncan Aphbj and Aphnj

More info here
Tribute to MJ wound Alnico II pro from 1986 to 2013
5 vintage 1960s push in bushings one modern for B-string

1976 switch ring
Vintage nut
70-80s jack plate
One m69 and one metric asian ring.

So when you say " OCD-style replica made of a real afd vos", you mean you took your AFD 170 and re-did it? You are more brave than me!!! LOL

Yes, Its gone ;)
Started of with correct hardware.
But the color bothered me to much.

Your AFD thread show how weird the color is.
From pee yellow to brown sinamon.

Id say it should be closer to spoonful burst then to that they did .

I havent heard anything about the R&D behind the AFD project.
I asked Gibson a couple of questions but I got no reply.

Wonder how much

I love the top. it has that uncanny slight pinstripe reverse chevron thing gojng on. Amazing find on that top. If you want it done right you do it yourself. Is it likely the red stain on the Corsa's will be impossible to sand to change to an AFD color?

No problem . Sanding and chlorine should take care of that.
Btw the vos afd had some dark dye to boost the flames.
Its to much. Ive tried it on this build.
I didnt like for afd.

2011-2012 build

Switch plates.
Original switchplate got that incorrect R.

Here is a 90s classic left vs USA (the one from afd vos ) and a early 70s the one Derrig used .
