Hello boys! I haven't put up a build thread for quite a while. Been too busy.

But this build has such a wow-factor to it, I thought I'd include you all in the step-by-step process.

MLP member @Crotch (Andy) has asked me to do a very special slab strat for him. I thought that was a great idea, naturally..

It's going to be an ash-bodied slab-style strat with a drop top of flamed maple, with a single binding around the top. Topped off with a tiger-flame neck with ebony fret board.

Here's a peek at some of the materials before I start:

Flame, bookmatched top, light swamp-ash body..

Flame maple neck with Indian Ebony fret board..

Special-order Lindy Fralin strat rig.

The finish is going to be in a trans-tangerine, which should really make the flame top light up.

We're going to be making sawdust on this very shortly, so stay tuned..

That ebony is indeed killer. Really dark. I have two of them, one's being used on this build.

Funny thing about ebony; it's rarely all dark or all black. Much of it has light stripes and streaks running through it. It's all dyed by the company, such on Les Paul Customs, Gretsch guitars, etc. Dyed for a uniform color effect.

Most of the guys who know me know I'm a Strat guy first and foremost. I have a few, vintage and new and in between. Always wanted one of these so figured let's do it, and let's go all out and outside the box a little. Hence the Fralin split blades with blender pots and all the flame. Dave and I have been putting this together for a few weeks so let's see how she goes.

This is somewhat the "muse" if you will. Something along these lines. Very much looking forward to it and supporting a forum friend in the process.

That's an intriguing guitar -- superficially very Strat-like but lots of subtle differences too!

From what Dave was saying above, are you planning binding back and front like your pic or just at the front with the maple top and then some sort of edge radius at the back, +/- tummy cut...?

I'll have to follow this thread -- it's a fabulous idea and I'm fascinated to see how this comes together!

Ahhhhhh. Strats. You just gotta love em :)

I just built 2 of them. One a pretty standard tobacco burst hard tail strat for myself, and then one somewhat similar to this one, only it was a quilted drop top, Floyd Rose, and SD hot rails

I love me some Strats!

I'll be watching this one :)
