I cut my teeth on one of these. Great amps back then. You could bang on the head and the reverb would go nuts. I'd love to find a cherry one today. Here is a complete restoration.

The one sitting down in grandma's basement was in a lot better shape than that. I last saw it in 2015, and I doubt it's moved since then. Needs a recap and retube and it's ready to go.

In my opinion guys that are after vintage sounds need to use vintage gear, whether it be Marshall, Fender etc. Not modern voiced amps.
Nice amps for what they are.

I had a Silvertone 100W tube combo with a 15” speaker back in 61. Sweet cleans at moderate volumes. But at concert volumes, the speaker would blow. Had it repaired, as we didn’t know about buying new ones in those days, but it never was right. Traded it for a Fender Pro in 64, but the Pro was thin at lower volumes.

that's why I've liked my old Gibson amp for all of these years.

That smell. I play and I'm transported back to a simpler time, I start playing proto-ROCK riffs, old tubes cooking smell better than a steak on the grill.

If it has original tubes or anything more than 20 years old, don't toss them. You will never find better sounding tubes than the old ones. If they don't need to be replaced, leave them in there.

I wish I had all my old tubes back.

Those uncle Doug's video's are fun to watch. The dude has that dry sense of humor and the things he can do with those old crap amps is amazing.

I'd take one. To me amps are more desirable than more guitars. Guitars can only do so much. But amp voicings can make the difference.
Both of course are necessary.

My first amp--actually, it was a partnership--my friend and I went halves, so I had it a week at a time. I think we paid $100 for it, heavily used in ~1974.

We built our own cab in the HS woodshop, and it was horrendous--2x12 inch Radio Shack I-don't-know-what speakers.

No idea where it is now. Vanished in the ether...

My older brother had the next generation Silvertone amp. Same cab with 6x10 Jensons, but the amp was 150 watts, and solidstate. I wasnt suppose to touch it, but me, and 2 friends plugged in 3 guitars, and blew a couple of the speakers. My brother was pissed, so was my dad. He had to pay to get it fixed........
