Hey guys, so I have generally always relied on my volume/tone knobs for different sounds and really explored all the different options I can get out of my LP. That being said I've have recently acquired some pedals to try out. Because I have never been a pedal person I am a little lost as to the order of things. I will definitely move things around and find the setup that sounds best to me, I'm just looking for a general starting point. Here's the info on equipment:

-Boss TU-3
-Vox 847 Wah (modded for true bypass)
-MXR Dyna Comp
-Freekish Blues Betty Boost Overdrive
-MXR 10 band EQ
-Probably a Fuzz pedal of some sort soon

All into an Egnater Tweaker, that's the other thing is with this amp having the effects loop I wasn't sure what to plug into the front and what into the back. Thanks for any suggestions. If you care to expand on why certain things should go in what order I would love to hear it.:thumb:

Experiment. None of those need to go in the amp FX loop, but you may find it suits. Id put the wah up front, but that depends if you like your wah fuzzed or fuzz wah-ed.

If this were me, I'd put them in the order that you have listed them, with the fuzz being in front of the betty boost. You have a fairly good set of pedals to start with!

Thanks, I figured if I'm gonna do it I might as well get some decent stuff. Just like guitars I'm sure some will stay and some will go as my tastes change but I think this should get me started.:thumb:

So am I correct in that the effects loop is best used for modulation pedals like, delay, phaser, etc?

I recommend:
Tuner -> Wah -> Compressor -> Distortion -> OD -> EQ -> Chorus -> Flanger -> Phaser -> Noise Suppressor -> Delay

The general wisdom is for time based effects- delay, reverbs, chorus- but run whatever you want. The big provisos- not all stomp box effects, or combinations, will run well in all amp FX loops. Pedals are generally designed for guitar line line level. YOu can get impednece mismatch between pedals and/or the loop and all sorts of issues. Rack effects are generally designed for loops, although not all loops (in my amp for example) are friendly to digital effects. Sticking stompboxs in the loop also means you end up with n feet of cable between your pre-amp and your power amp, some find this undesirable.

Just experiment, you will soon find what works. Then you can change some pedals and start all over.

Yeah, that list is kinda forgiving as far as the order. All of the pedals listed like to get the signal first. Moving things around will definitely change the dynamics of the whole setup, although if you're only running one or two at a time, it won't be as pronounced of a difference. I run my tuner off a volume pedal, but everyone else usually puts it first, so here would be my starting point: tuner>comp>fuzz>wah>OD>EQ. I've never used an EQ, so it depends on if you want it to shape your guitar signal before the pedals or shape the whole sound going to the amp. None of that stuff needs to be in the loop, but some people put their EQ in the loop for maximum tone-shaping, as well as being able to be used as a volume boost/cut. Generally, chorus and reverb should be in the loop, but if you're running your amp clean they are fine in front. Some people put phasers in the loop, but I like mine almost all the way in front, right behind the wah, so the OD can get the phased signal and DESTROY it!!!
So it's all a matter of preference, really.
That's a pretty kick-ass set of sonic Lego's you got there...
Go build something new.

I wouldn't but anything in front of the fuzz except the tuner - and that's as long as it's true bypass. Placing anything in front of a fuzz pedal almost always radically changes the character of the fuzz, same goes for treble boosters; you could put a wah there a la Hendrix if you're into that sort of thing but the fuzz will still be changed (for better or worse).

Experiment with the EQ early/last in chain. It actually is a better sound-shaper in the fx loop, and a better tone shaper before the amp.

Also, the compressor can sound really good after the wah, I would start the chain with the compressor or the wah. Keep the EQ after the compressor for sure.

That was one thing I tried first was the eq in the loop and it was awful. Like someone dropped a quilt over my speaker.....As soon as I put it back in front it sounds great! I guess some things just work better together than others!

Lots of amps sound good enough-some crappy amps you almost need one in the loop..If your loop stays empty then you can use a boost/eq as a third channel, for solos. Of course, the lower the level of the loop the better it will sound. You can either mod the loop or mod a pedal for it.
