Should I get a p90 50s standard if I already have a 50s standard with humbuckers?

Would the trade be worth it? I’ve played les Paul with p90s before and preferred them to humbuckers. Or should I just keep my 50s standard w/ humbuckers and swap them out for p90s.

Keep what you have,... Buy one with P90s,.... Buy as many as you can,... One of every color or two of every color,... Stockpile them like your gonna arm a guitar army. That's what i'm doing,... so that may not be for everyone.

Ideally, both. If not feasible for some reason go with the one that you prefer.
I like having one with P-90s for certain things (I have a Special), but could never have a P-90 guitar as my only option. For you and some others that might be just the ticket.

The correct answer for me. I would trade the Tokai to a higher end model if I could find the right deal and under 9 lbs.

I played the ES LP last night. P-90s are my go to, but I love having the humbucker option.

Keep both. They are different enough in sound to justify having both. I love my p90 standard because it sounds closer to a strat with the volume pots turned down and the amp turned up, but I can't stand the ergonomics of a strat. Humbucker is warmer and more precise with notes.

Humbucker-shaped “P90’s “ do not accurately capture a soap bar P90 tone (per Lindy Fralin phone call 15 years ago) because of a bunch physical and magnetic stuff Lindy rattled-off that I can’t remember.

Ditto what Dogbreath said - get a LP Special. WHY?
Because P90s + wraptail bridge + slab of mahogany = my fave tone recipe!
Pros for you:
*It will vary the most from your HB equipped LP, making it worth the extra cost.
*Less expensive than a carved top LP with P90’s

Cons: less than perfect intonation, but the metallic bite of that wrap tail bridge (my opinion) far outweighs this “flaw.”

P90s do come on a number of assorted flavors....

They are different beasts. I have both: a LP CS ‘59 RI fitted with CustomBuckers and a Baker B3 SL Wood fitted with Lollar ‘50s wind P90s. If you can afford both: fine. I would not swap the pickups. That would devaluate the instrument. Push comes to shove keep the one you have and wait for the right opportunity to acquire a P90 guitar…
