I posted a suggestion for a live sound forum around a week ago, an the thread died for lack of responses. There can be no doubt that more members here play live than record -- even if their live playing is only in their bedroom or music room.

I think that the Backstage covers it pretty well--that's where I've seen posts of this nature before.

Anyway, not too many people rely on the sub-forums--they simply read the new posts with the headlines that interest them.

If you post a "guess what happened on my gig last night," you will get LOTS of hits, regardless of where in MLP you post it.

I'd also like to see a YT channel subforum.

Sort of an official "MLP YTTV" type of thing.

Already thought of a great opening tag-line: "This is *insert name/username here*, and this is MY Les Paul".

:D

One thing I'd add - while it's nice to post threads in the backstage, I try to be cognizant of what I'm starting and not to just post threads about my band all the time in off topic or self serving ways. That shit can be annoying.

In a dedicated forum I'd probably censor myself a bit less in that regard, given that would be the purpose of said forum and the interest of those that enter it.

It is a delicate balance between thoughtfully promoting something you love and are trying to expose others to and just plain overdoing it. I relate a lot of things people post about to my band, because it is such a large part of my life and informs/impacts a lot of my musical experiences, current and historical.

social,

I think the purpose of the sub forum would include ways to get the tone you want in various environments, along with clips of your band.

Definitely. I was just commenting that I'd probably post more threads on those types of topics were there to be such a forum, vs. always posting them in the backstage, which I do far less frequently.

Yes! While there is a sub-forum about how to get the sound you want in recording, there is none about how to get that sound live. And was said above, most of us play live in some way and don't record.

Maybe instead of adding another sub-forum, the scope of the Recording Studio or Cellar forums could be expanded to include bands/live sound/live performance/etc.

Both of those current ones could apply, from varying angles.

The problem is, stuff gets buried very quickly in this section. If someone posts a great thread about sound tips in a live situation, or, anything else useful, it gets buried on page 8 a few days.

They do, but I'd like to see it separate. And I get what you mean about the "self serving" thing, but, hell.....why not? @rxbandit has posted a few things about gigs he has coming up, and, if he didn't bump it, again, it would have been buried. I know if I was around his parts, I would have went, and appreciated the heads up. @socialhero , I'd love to see more of your bands stuff....and even if I didn't, I'd rather scroll past than not have the opportunity to see it at all.

It could cover a pretty good scope of things, I think....everything from videos, to tips, pictures from your gigs, sound advice, and, as NGG said...even what the drummer eats before the show. LOL

Yeah, but I'm talking a more broad scope here. Anything like you are talking about in the link above would certainly fall under the sub forum, but now add in posts like @socialhero 's, mine, @OHIOSTEVE 's, @rxbandit 's, hell....YOURS!......ya know......

Cool. I enjoy seeing other people's bands, music, issues at gigs, etc..

@Alex

I think this is an amazing idea and would greatly benefit the forum!

Kudos to Jon!

:hmm:
Hum... let's see...
it took ten months to bring back "like's".
People have complained about the Kravitz and Sexy Hexy threads on the front page for... months
and nothing has changed.
I say your chances of seeing a "Live" sub-forum are about...

So sorry guys but it's not gonna happen.
:(

:D

Yeah, that would be great!
