You can span more frets. I enjoy playing short scales IF the neck is not narrowed proportionally. If it is, I can't keep from unintentionally muting strings that should be open.

I second what River stated. I'd also like to mention that short scale guitars don't feel as "right" as longer scale guitars if you have large hands and fingers as I do. My large hands prefer longer scales when I'm playing for an extended period of time or if I'm playing under the 12th fret. A short scale guitar doesn't bother me all too much, its just preference.

I have a Mustang with a 24" scale--I can easily handle a Strat's longer scale--my classical has the same scale and a wider neck.

But there's something about the Mustang that's just col to play.

I've often used it to learn trickier stuff, because the scale is shorter, and I bend all over the place and my vibrato is a bit different.

My fingers are long, but if you have Richard Kiel or Andre the Giant size hands--a short scale may not be for you.

it can be complicated if you wanna venture beyond the 12th fret with chubby fingers playing way up high up there... don't believe me? give it a whirl.

guessing its not a good idea that. was thinking it may help untill i beat my fingers into shape. im having trouble stretching and while my fingers are stetched to get to the right notes im having trouble then getting enough pressure to get the clean sound without the rattle. i hope it doesnt take too much longer to build up some calluses, the finger tips on my left hand are so sore typing hurts. i've put in about 4 hours total in the last 2 days it its been hell on my finger tips. seems it doesnt matter if its the 25.5" dean or the 24.75" agile either hurts and the problems compound each other to where the more it hurts the less pressure i can put on the strings lol think i may take a day off.

maybe lighter strings on one of the 2 would help? i could switch to the one with lighter strings when my fingers start to get sore ?

on a side note i did atleast make some progress. been working on nirvanas teen spirit and i've gotten the fingering completely down and am almost where i need to be on the speed. if my fingers dont keep me from practicing i should have it down in another day or two. sucks it takes me a week to learn whats considered a super easy song.
