Hi all,

I just purchased a new lp junior with a single dog-ear p90... from what I've read , the ideal distance between the pickup pole and bottom of string is 1/16 inch. Mine is currently at 3/16 on both E strings... my math is horrible and I've seen some shims of different thickness but I don't know which to use to bring it up 2/16th ... the advertised samples don't convert to this measurement. So what thickness do I need to
to bring it up... thanks in advance

Mike

Have you plugged it in ? 3/16" sounds about right. Mine is just shy of ¼" and it sings beautifully. I raised the pole pieces to try to get maybe something better, all it did was make the Lollar very trebly and harsh.

I agree with the good Dr. My Epi ‘56 LP Goldtop P 90 sounds best with more than 1/16” distance from pole piece top to string bottom. But if you find that your Junior sounds best with little clearance, why not raise the pole pieces?

I decided to leave the pickups at 3/16th inch clearance... just changed the Epi strings it came with (kinda crappy).. to Elixir 10's...big diff . Sustain and resonance are superb now

Good, I never leave the “delivery strings” on new guitars for more than 10 minutes. We all like different strings, and a guitar will not sound right to us without them.
