It's a sad guitar day at my house today :( I've had my Epi JB for a week or so and really wanted to love this guitar, but it doesn't seem meant to be. There's nothing wrong with the guitar per se, I just am not finding it comfortable to play - very heavy and I'm not bonding with the neck. I have a Baja Telecaster with a pretty large neck that I really like, but there's something about the shape of the neck on the JB that is uncomfortable for me, and is actually causing some pain in my thumb. Love the sound and look of the guitar, all the cool touches, like the HSC lined in pink etc. but the guitar and I just don't seem made for each other and it looks like I'm going to return it. I'm still GASing for a LP and don't want to drop $2K on a Gibson if I can avoid it. Any suggestions for other Epi LPs that might be better suited for me?

LP Tribute. I believe there is a new HCS flame-top with speed knobs for $799
I saw one hanging in GC the other day...3 levels up the wall
but absolutely gorgeous
(someone posted a blue version here...it's just like it but in heritage cherry sunburst)

Sorry if this if might sound stupid (and for the offtopic), but what the hell's an Epiphone JB?

Give the Epi 56 Goldtop a spin, it might not be for you, but then again it might.

Logan, you might want to look at the Ultra series if weight is a problem. I don't know what the return policy is where you bought your JB but if you have time, maybe keep it another week and see if your hand can adjust to the neck. I don't think you'll find many that sound any better. The 50th Anniversary Version 3 might be another option too if there are any left. :)

Epiphone Elite or Elitist... their necks are quite a bit slimmer than the JB. I started to quite like the chunkier neck after owning a 56 anniversary LP but the Elite/Elitist neck is really nice and not too chunky at all! You can't beat the build quality as well... top of the pile! You'll only get them secondhand though so keep an eye on ebay and other trading sites. They seem to be going for a minimum of around $800 these days.

Definitely a tribute model, if you're loOking to get rid of the JB. Though the Gibson '57 Classics are weak and thin sounding, IMO. I prefer the stock pups from my G400.

That's a bummer. I love mine and the neck is what made me pick this model. Good luck with finding a ng that suits you better. I also agree that you should check out the ultras if weight was an issue.

Here's the new Epiphone catalog. These guitars were supposed to have been out in October I think, but they are not quite here yet. At least you have something to look over and ponder, then throw some more questions back here if you want.

2011/12 Epiphone Catalog

I have the Prophecy GX, the one in my avatar. The new one is totally changed and is on pages 18 -19. Mine has 2 knobs, they are going back to 4. Mine has Dirty Fingers pickups and they are going to the 490/498 pair. Inlays have changed. Everything else is the same. If you like EMG's they have the EX model in black.

+1 for a used Elitist which could be had for $800.there's a couple on Ebay right now with a BIN price in that range.
eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices
Also my friend Heath Welch still has one WG-11 left I think for around $400;thinner 60's style neck, log neck tenon, flamed laminate top, etc. That would make a excellent buy-I know because I have a WG-59 and I love it.The spec's and build quality blow pretty much everything else away in it's price range.Another MLP member here has a WG-11 and loves it.If interested I would grab it fast though as it's the last one as I said until the next guitars arrive in February.
Contact Heath directly at welchsales@aol.com and tell him Denny says hi!
P.S.Here's the link to the MLP post I recently did about my WG-59 as well as alot of info regarding their build quality, etc.Lot's of pic's too.The WG-11 that is available is pretty sweet looking too I might add.

Good luck!
