Played my ‘66 SG Custom at rehearsal tonight.

The pickup selector was changed at some point, and I guess I changed the trem screw, but otherwise original. I’ve owned it since 1981 and I love it. It’s a fretless wonder, has a narrow nut and a fat neck.

It plays great, really full sound; deep base to hot treble notes up the neck. I haven’t done anything to it over 40 years and it plays a dream.

It’s got nylon saddles, corroded screws, laquer cracking all over, yellowing headstock, gold’s flaking off. The actual colour is whiter than this image.

That’s my cigarette burn on there. The case is original and in good shape.

Just thought I’d document this for you.

I’d rather break it or lose it than not use it!
This is my opinion on guitars too.

Though they can be pretty and or expensive, ultimately they are a tool. Tools that can't be used may have financial value but have no value at all as a tool.

I have a distant descendant of your guitar. Checks a lot of boxes for me.

I really like the idea of a narrow nut with a beefy profile. I’ve only played a few narrow nut gibsons and they’ve all had pretty slim necks. I thinks it’s a winning combo for comfort and ‘speed’ though.

I got it when I was 19, I didn’t know anything about guitars except how to play. Now I’m partial to batwing SGs.
