Ive played Fenders with series/parallel wiring, and really liked it. Im going to get an RS kit and am considering getting a push/pul for this purpose. I know the Jimmy Page sig had series/parallel but it also had coil splitting. Would humbuckers in series sound good? would it get too muddy?

There are two ways to do series parallel. If you have 4 wire pickups you can run the individual coils of the humbucker in series (normal) or parallel. Then you can do master series parallel with the whole humbuckers, parallel is normal middle position, series is all 4 coils together.

I haven't tried either yet.

Put the push / pull in the tone position so you can still use the USA volume pots.

im mostly curious id its usable/worthwhile to do. it costs a little extra to a push/pull pot and if its something i wont end up using id rather have a regular pot. Im also thinking about putting one pickup out of phase, and ive heard that doing so will lower the output of the signal (when the 2 pickups are used in parallel) i wonder how running the out of phase pickups series would sound

Like almost everyone in the 80's I tried it. There are a few useful combinations, but most are not, IMHO.
I do like the tone from the bridge coils in parallel, both pickups on.
Also, a split coil on the neck can be cool.
I dropped it all and went to 50's wiring, no tricks.

I'm asking about non-split HBs in series/parallel (my pickups cant be split) did you ever use the 2 HBs in series with the each other?

Can't be done without rewiring them.

I had coil splitting along series/parallel. I like the sound of both humb in series. It was like having a boost in your guitar. Cons are that theres little you can to to alter that sound. No balancing pickups output like in parallel. The single coils where awesome in series, too.

What I really liked about this wiring is the changes in output. From a very low output single coil to the full blast of two humbueckers in series, and every thing in between..

I have series/parallel switching in my LP w/ P Rails. It might be because my two coils are single coil/ P 90 but I hear a HUGE difference in tone when I switch them. The parallel is more open with a lot of texture and overtone. The series just comes right at you, perfect for a high gain sound.

do you mean this can only be done with 4 way conductor pickups?

I do the series parallel mod on Tele's all the time, pickups need only have 2 wires each. The 4 way Tele does all three tele tones and the 4th position puts neck and bridge in series.

Humbuckers do not need 4 wires to do parallel pickup to pickup, though 4 wires are needed for coil splitting and phasing, series mod can be done with 2 wire vintage humbuckers.

I also do the series parallel on jazz bass with stock 2 wire pu's.

I have each of the pickups on my Les Paul wired for series/parallel for each pickup--so I get both coils in series or both in parallel--there is a difference in tone--and I like both.

Mine are controlled by push/pull pots.

I wanted to do something different than coil splitting or coil tapping.
I'm glad I did that.

that sounds cool. i wanted to get a set of SD Triple Shots which do that, but theres no word on those on my area. is that what you use, or do you have them on push/pulls?
