I have noticed that serial numbers can be 5 or 6 digits.
Example: R 8123 (123rd produced)
R81234 (no space between the R and the number) 1234th produced?

When you see 6 digets does that mean the number of guitars produced that year has reached 1000 (or higher).
Thanks....just curious!

Yep. Though the "R" prefix was only used in 2016 and maybe 2017 (can't remember for sure). Since then they just read: 9 1234 or 912345 (or 8 1234/812345).

The 9 or 8 is the model (R9 or R8, etc) and the number that follows is model year number (eg, 9 1234 would be a 2021 model and the 234th made) then the sequential production number. But yeah, you got the gist of it.

Late Edit in red. Sorry... was typing faster than I was thinking... but anyway, you got it figured out. :)

I screwed up. Was meaning 9 xxxx. 8 xxxx etc. (not R)... I have a 2009 incoming with # 8 9359. 359th one made that year. I sometimes see the 6 digit numbers and figured that is showing that they are 1000 or more produced.
Is that correct?
Thanks!

See my late edit above to my original post... I forgot to mention the model year in the SN.
