I’m wondering if anyone can answer a question I have on the historic models serial numbers. As I understand it, the first number indicates the model (9 = 59, 8 = 58 7=57 etc), the second number indicates the year of manufacture, and the last 3 -4 numbers indicates the number of the guitar. So for example 9 9235 would be the 235th R9 produced in 2009.
The historics are well into their second decade though, nearing their 3rd, so how exactly does this work? For example I have a 2000 R9 that is number 9 03XX, the 0 representing production year 2000. But now in 2010 it seems the serial numbers are back to 9 0XXX with the 0 now referring to production year 2010. So putting aside updated specs etc and going strictly from serial numbers, how would you decipher a 2010 R9 from a 2000 R9. Its seems like there would be duplicate serial numbers now. Is it likely there is a 2010 R9 with my same serial number?
