I'm checking out a used Les Paul Standard. The serial number is 000133XX. Which according to the Gibson serial number decoder YDDDYPPP, dates it for January 1st, 2003 out of the Nashville plant.

January 1st seems a bit odd to me as all companies I know are on holiday that day, and everyone I know in Nashville would be watching football.

Is this a legit ?

if you want to know if it's fake, post some pics with it. If it proves to be real, get it. Very rare:))

Here's the photos I have. I do not have a photo of the face of the headstock. Does it look legit? Again to me a Jan 1st date seems odd, not necessarily special/rare as it's just a date, unless I'm missing something that makes it more valuable.

Anything else I should look for on a 2003 standard to validate it? It looks like its a rosewood fretboard, old-style tuners and knobs - is that correct for that year? Also the bridge looks more satin in the photo, were those chrome or nickle that year? Any other points I should look at.

Looks legit to me. Headstock wings are almost always a tell-tale sign. Looks damn nice too! I wouldn't think that a Jan 1 SN would be that strange. The Gibson factory is likely open for at the very least a couple of hours on that day.

Positionings are all exactly the same as my '90, other than the screw positions on the tone control cavity are slightly askew (presume this is not automated) and my serial number is sited 1/8" lower.
Rest looks good.

I don't think it beyond the realms of possibility that a factory is run on a public holiday. In the past I have worked numerous shifts on such days, mainly due to increased orders or to reduce a backlog of work. Why, in the 1980s I even worked seven consecutive Christmas days, no problem.

"Great game yesterday, huh? And those Mojitos were killer! Hey, today's the SECOND, not the first. I just noticed that you set the thing wrong for the serial numbers. Hey, is that Yvonne friend of Charlene's dating anyone? Seems like a lot of fun."

Sounds more like a hangover glitch or the scenario dspelman posted. The guitar looks great. love that blond streak in the wood on the top.
