Tell it all......

This could very well be based on true events. Some will say "yeah right the music industry and rap filled prisons" but what if the same kind of meeting was held with influential members of other industries at the same time?

I would believe its based on real events because I was invited to such a meeting twice, in two different industries, walked.out of one, saying I was not allowing that, the second time I didn't have to walk out as everyone pointed the guy suggesting it had to get kicked out of the asociation. If you want deetz just ask and I'll post (if nobody asks I'll spare you all a long post).

People do get together to plan on doing stuff that will give them 1% more profit while destroying everyone else. If you think that kind of thing does not happen then you are a little naive (or live in another world).

I think that story is a bit over flourished.

The real story:

The music industry was in such crappy shape, no artists, no talent, no money, they just started pulling their crack dealers off the sidewalk, into the studio and telling them to make up some shit.

"Here, we'll sample some Queen or Bowie and you just start doing that rapping thing you do..."

Whether true or not, the first thing I thought of as I read through the OP's post was Goldfinger's meeting with his "international crime syndicate" pals to explain how and why he's going to knock over Fort Knox. (You know, right before the famous "Do you expect me to talk?" / "No, Mr. Bond, I expect you to die!" scene.)

Plot for a future 007 movie?

That letter has been circulating the web for years.... Nothing but BS black propaganda....

And then the way the author rivets towards the private prison industry as if that really was the true reason is such bullshit..

That nameless email? Yeah. The situation? You'd be naive to think that stuff does not happen regularly.

where and when ? details and evidence ?

naive in this context means not hysterically believing crap posted by idiots for idiots on the Internet

And all this time I thought the gangs were responsible for gang violence (I'm pretty sure gangs have been around a lot longer than rap). There are a lot of violent gangs out there today and not all of them have rap as a part of their culture.

Tell it all......

When I was in the local music industry I was kind of a well known/respected person and was invited to almost everything mostly because half of them thought I had money and the other half thought I didn't have any (and those are the 2 factions in the local industry, always wanting privileges for their group and more control for the other).

Anyway, when piracy started blooming in here I was invited to this meeting where amongst other things we were told that:

The companies we represented would start making lots of money regardless of us producing something or not.

We would start getting money from everyone that wants to produce a record and put it in the market or media (radio, TV)

We should start producing whatever shit we could as fast as we could because "they" were going to push for a law that obligated radio stations, bars and discos to play 80% local artists regardless of quality.

They were already about to sign a law that created the national pirates asociation which would sanction the trade of music, software and movies, allowing their members to sell unlicensed copies of whatever they want, at whatever price they want, as long as they pay annual fees that would go to our pockets and not not to the musician, creator, studio (this includes international products, movies are hardly ever made here, you can buy the latest batman movie for 1 dollar). They would also control the illegal pirates by shutting down their business and taking their stock for the legal pirates to sell.

This included making and selling copies of whatever music, video, or software you fancied and selling it with no legal consecuence. Also artists would lose every right and be at the mercy of pirates, not getting a dime for any album sold and not being able to sue whatever store sold copies of their album without their permission.

Me and others said we were not going to allow that. We were told we should "cause our bosses were already on to it"... well I was my own boss and owned my studio so I walked.

I told some people, mainly artists that made lots of money out of producing their own albums and selling them, we fought, we lost. It made the news, 4 years ago or so.

They got their way and started a witch hunt where legal music and video stores were visited by association representatives and police and their stock taken from them, their stores closed. They said "they hadn't paid royalties for those CDs DVDs " and when presented with papers backing their legal status as music distributors they were told that didn't apply anymore and that now royalties were to be paid to the association.

They visited my studio twice. Asking for fees and stuff, I sent them to hell more than once, threatened to take hard drives by force and all that. I said I'd burn he place with them inside if they tried. These were low level ants.

They started visiting shows and places that had live acts and shouting them down for not having the license (both the place and the band) and made void city and musicians association licenses.

After leaving the industry I heard from then again, two months ago they send me a letter saying my current business has failed to pay the annual license for audiovisual material and that I have to pay in x number of days or face a lawsuit starting at 100K.

I own and manage a beach hotel now, and they claim we (and restaurants, shops, rental boats, whoever makes money) have to pay them for playing music... hell we pay the real royalties management association and should not pay these assholes.

Anyway... in the hotel/restaurant/bar businesses

I get invited to a meeting by mistake, I share my father's name and they probably thought I shared his views (or they probably thought this was still his business).

They start talking about how they are pushing for a law that bans consumption of food on the beach unless its been bought from the local places. They will close and take away public restrooms and lockers from the beach. They will ban beach camping and house rentals.

Why? Because "all of that is destroying the industry" (it's actually hurting their pockets by less than 1% as all of the 200 hotels in the zone are full most of the year, and you see restaurants full of people and all that, some of them even close for 2 or 3 months during the low season and go on vacation. .. yeah, the industry is dying!!!). From that one I just walked out without saying a thing... I'm probably selling the place anyway and moving back to my city to relax for a time.

Why not buy into pot farms and corner the market on stoner rock? It would be much easier to pull off than this load of stuff---
