It's red. I love it.

Dyeing maple is pretty hard to get right. Even with the washcoat it's a little blotchy but overall I like it. Maybe a tinted coat or two, we'll see.

Right now I'll let it dry fully and then do some clear shellac coats.

this thread crept up on me. just noticed it today...really nice looking design and nice looking build. u sure this is only your second build? me likes.

also, in the past i had to do some work with staining maple and it blotches easily. a place in tennessee called Bix offers a solution that is lightly sprayed on raw maple that eliminates blotching. i would have thought a couple of coats of clear to seal, and then spraying color would have been safe. did you stain the maple directly, or seal it first?

looking great, none the less. great job

I just did a wash coat of shellac then once dry scuffed it with micromesh and did the waterbased red.

I probably should have bought a preval and mixed the dye in thinned shellac and sprayed it on. I just wanted to finish this one by hand though. I am happy with it.

Mmm I like it:

Couple of lightly wiped on shellac seal coats. It looks less blotchy now. With the binding scraped back I really like the contrast between the bright white and the red.

Thanks man.

I wound up the first P90. It has 10,542 winds of 42AWG wire.

Whats that translate into Ohms? Or have you checked it yet? Just curious, I've got a pretty hot P90 that will go into my first build if I ever get rolling on it outside of just having the laminated neck wood glued up. Really be interesting to hear how it sounds, it really looks great in the red. Great job! :thumb:

Don

I haven't soldered the leads on yet. I'll reverse wind the other one to around 10,000 for the neck for a bit of hum cancelling. Once I get the leads on them I can post the measurements.

I just had to do a little mockup...

I'm getting all my wisdom teeth extracted the day after tomorrow. Since I will be out of commission for a bit I'm just going to wipe a couple more thin shellac coats to make sure it's sealed up and put it together tomorrow night so I can play it for a bit.

I think I might order a preval and shoot a couple thin red tinted coats before moving on to top coats.

Good luck on the teeth, hope you recover fast. I had mine done but couldn't keep down the painkillers so I spent a lot of time sleeping off the worst of it.

I finished up winding and assembling the pickups. The neck measures around 8.35k and the bridge 8.6k.

I put it all together. Plays pretty great. All the wiring works like it's supposed to, hum cancelling in the middle position.

I'll have to tear it down later and complete the work on the finish. Going to get my wisdom teeth out in an hour and a half...

Thanks,

It went fine. I don't know it doesn't hurt that bad really. Some people say it gets worse after a day or two. We'll see...

I think the bridge pickup could use another 1000 winds or so. I notice Lollar offers an overwound one that reads 9.45k. I think I'll do that and make a proper nut for it before making the video.

My face is just starting to swell a bit too from my wisdom teeth so maybe in a few days!
