I have the SM Sand & Sealer aerosol spray. I've just finished staining and am ready to seal the top. Do I need to sand at all after applying coats and before finishing spray? If so what grit?

Also for grain filler, my plan is to apply with a spread and use some burlap to smooth it in. Do I need to sand after this and before using the Sand & Sealer?

Thanks!

Hey Kevin,
don't know that SM stuff but I'd say it is better to sand after applying the grainfiller. I normally use 240 grid.
Concerning the top: if sanded well before staining I wouldn't Sand it anymore, risky to get through stain. Just can say what I do perhaps there are other opinions from people who are much better in finishing than me.
Regards
Lars

The reason to use sanding sealer is that it sands easier than topcoat. So yeah I would sand back lightly after spraying the sealer on the stained top. Lightly! 320 grit dry non loading paper just to knock off dust particles, raised grain etc.
Don't go near anything with a corner or edge, you'll likely burn through.

Sounds like a good plan. I just put the first mist layer over the top. I'll finish the pore filler on the body and neck and then add sealer there before sanding.
