Oh man. He’s one of my favorite front men. I’d go to that in a heartbeat, maybe even VIP.
I love his radio show.

I went to Cabo the weekend before his birthday bash in 2006, which was the actual day of his birthday.
My buddy had heard that he usually showed up the week prior... and yes, he did.
I don't remember the opening act... could have been Nickelback.
Sammy came out for a song, then the Waboritas took over the stage and played all night.

I missed Sammy all through high school and into the eighties. Never could nail down a chance to catch him solo, and then he joined Van Halen.
Eh… there’s all that . . .
So I did the “Van Hagar” thing a couple of times. I wouldn’t say they were bad shows at all, but never more than 90 minutes.
Everyone I talked to who had seen him solo and with Montrose talked about what a killer live show he always did.
I played the hell out of the HSAS album with Neal Schon.
Saw him on the last tour with Van Halen, and soon after with Marching To Mars - absolutely no comparison.

He definitely had something to prove.
A 3.5 hour show.
And a killer band.
Victor Johnson is amazing.

Seen him several times since, and he seems to have mellowed some, but when he does the rockers he definitely does them justice.

tickets are actually cheap for what it is,its the trip to cabo that hurts.
He sold the bar in 2010
Apparently, this year it's on Catalina Island.
But that means a trip to LA, then dealing with the Catalina Express and getting lodging in Avalon, which is likely sold out.
Really the only way to go is if you have a friend with a boat and a mooring in Avalon.
