Have your daddy save some used motor oil, then soak your strings for 22 years. They should be fine to play after that.

:lol::lol::lol:

Yep, that's how I do it, right there! What's 22 years, when one seeks the perfect tone?

Spray 'em down with WD-40 before and after playing.
This will exclude any moisture
but before application of WD 40
apply a clean ,dry cloth to the strings in a firm
and thorough manner

Washing hands before playing should eliminate premature string
deterioration

Elixir Plated Plain steels are the ONLY strings that have ever held up for me for any length of time and they'll still rust if I don't wipe them down after I play. It's a shame they stopped producing them in September of last year. I used to eat a set of Daddarios/EBs/DRs a week, and that was washing my hands before every time and wiping down after every time. I used all those string conditioners and they never did anything worth mentioning. I turn my frets green, too, after a while, and I DESTROY gold hardware.

No matter what anybody says to you, just like me, you're probably stuck with it. I eat right, drink lots of water, and have been all over the world in different climates and IT STILL HAPPENS.

I change a set of strings after 25-30 hours of playing time. It comes with the territory.

that must get expensive?
I must say,the string tone is depleted after a 30 hour playing period

I change em when the intonation goes, sometimes after two weeks. I'm livin' big like that. I don't give a shit.

Btw, go easy on the lemon olil. I used to do that almost every string change. then when it was time for a refret. The frets wouldn't stick. The glue wouldn't hold. Luthier had to thoroughly clean and dry the entire fretboard. Twice a year is enough.

And thx for the other thread dude. I haven't laughed as hard for a while on here. Old school MLP that was. :thumb:

Nah, I play around fifteen hours a week, between all four guitars. That's $6 every two weeks, and on average each guitar gets restrung once every two months.

I can't see that.. I did over 40 hours this week alone playing on a new set and they are just perfect now... Nowhere near dead..

I realize that everyone is different, but 30 hours seems like not too much to me.

I'm pretty picky about intonation, and I sweaty a bit when I play -- not as much as the OP, apparently, but I've noticed that any corrosion on the string fvcks up my intonation, and if there's one thing I hate, it's going for a nice note to hang on up the neck, and finding that it's sour. So I give it 30 or so hours.
