For the electrics I use GHS Nickel Rockers (pure nickel) they last forever if you clean them after play. They have a "flat wound' feeling and a little more tension than usual i.e. a 9 set will feel like a 9.5 etc. For the acoustics doesn't really matter since you change them more often. Another thing to notice, is to clean the fretboard properly between string changes. You'll be surprised how much of the old 'dirt' contaminates your new strings and shortens their life.

For the Fretboard I use dunlap lemon oil some people argue that lemon oil is not good for fretboard but I think it helps a lot correct me if I am wrong

This is what I use also. You should wipe it clean with a cloth or kitchen paper roll and let it dry

Don't put salt on your strings.
Humid climate can highly affect this. Wipe the strings dry after playing. If rust continues you need to use an oil soaked pad or cloth and wipe the strings after playing (NOT the fretboard) and then wipe the oil off before playing. Oil is a great rust preventative. Mineral spirits works also.
Note: Isoprophyl/rubbing alcohol can help get the oil off the strings so you can play.

Same here. But I only do it about twice a year... or less.

Yeah, OK but she has to find a way to get the dirt off. Depending on the climate conditions and use, a rosewood fretboard does not need more than once a year, ebony twice. The thing is that tiny particles embed into a rosewood fretboard easily being softer. I 'wet' a piece of kitchen paper roll and clean the fretboard. You can also use an old thin pick to clean/remove dirt between frets. On acoustics I also use a white kitchen Scotch Brite to polish the frets when using bronze strings. I'm also interested if others have any suggestions

Edit: ... and what morrow said earlier

Hm? Oh, I wasn't refuting anything you said... merely indicating what my own personal practice has been so far.

Thanks for the additional tips-- I am sure that I will find your suggestions to be handy!

Spray 'em down with WD-40 before and after playing.

Yeah, I tried to read yours, but the struggle for humor was painful to watch.

Blow it out yer arse, Thump! That was serious shit! I bet if you asked a lot of older players on here, they'd admit to boiling strings to clean them at least once, if only to see if it was true! :dude:

And now I'll put my humorous little doobries in...:applause: :D

Have your daddy save some used motor oil, then soak your strings for 22 years. They should be fine to play after that.
