So this weekend I got to move some stuff from my parents attic and my nominal fee was to take stuff I wanted that they wanted gone. So I think I friggin scored!!! I snagged up some old antique bed frames, some newer(70-80s) bed frames mostly out of 2" pine. 6 sheets of plywood 5 sheets of mdf and two really really nice solid pieces of 1" pine about 30"x50"! One of the headboard kinda things from an old waterbed I think has some nice chunky pieces of oak. Anyone else use leftovers or unwanted stuff to recycle or upcycle into rock n roll machines??

Two screws, five bolts, and a little copper wire. I think I can make an a-bomb out of it.

i made the body for this from a 2 x 6 fir board that came out of an old work bench i tore down. sounds like you done good. she wanted to leave it a little 'organic' so we could feel the grain of the wood. looks better in person than the pics. there are some bugger spots where nails were and a couple of dents i chose to leave. plays and sounds great. for those (like i'd be) that are curious...the key is the trunk key to my parents last car. they raised my niece for the first 4 or so years of her life, as her momma died giving birth to her. she melted when she saw maw maw's key. i put it in without clearcoat so she could touch it....girls are funny that way.

thanks. i chose to share the story because that is one of the neatest things about building a guitar for someone. custom building can bring so much more to the table than a different style, color or wood offered by the factories.

Yep, check out my current build 5 Yamaha/Gibson style fusion build. It's made of a door step, school gym flooring, a table top and part of school lab bench. :D

Heck yeah, my VLB archtop was pallets, a rejected top, and slavaged hardware. One my favorite guitars.

Customer rejected the top for a small knot on the upper treble bout. Darn!

I made the neck of this guitar from a door I found in my loft. My though process went. "I wonder if I can make a guitar out of this door..." Turns out I could. :D

Not as much door went into it as I had hoped, but still saved my a couple of quid. Cost me a lot more in tools and other stuff mind you! :D

I tore down our 100 year old shed that was falling apart. Some old wood there that needed to live on though. Also had an old rejected, unfinished walnut neck that I never had the heart to throw away. Same with the fret board, a reject but perfectly useable. Allways loved Joan Jett and melody makers as well. Had great fun doing it:

My **** is made out of mahogany, maple, and Ebony that I picked up at Hearne Hardwoods.

I feel inferior cuz they aren't made out of a stack of old newspapers and a shelf from the garden shed :D

Of course you do! :naughty:Well, it took over twenty years for me to pile up enough scrap and harvested stuff that I could just build out of what I had squirreled away. So keep at it.
