Has anyone here used a seth with this magnet swap?
I would think it would make the seth more authentic spec wise and the tone more rounded?
I am buying a double cream seth and may swap the magnet?
was thinking one of these two from throbak,
A2 long / Scooped mids, chimey highs, warm sweet tones, loose feel.
A2 short / Scooped mids, spankier tone than long A2.

I don't know about his other mags, but I purchased an A4 from ThroBak for my Sheptone Tribute neck pup and it delivered as advertised. The pup is now more articulate and balanced with no boominess when played with OD. Still pairs up great with the Sheptone AB Custom (degaussed A5) I have in the bridge as well.

yeah i beleive you because the guy that owns throbak is a real stand up guy and believes in his products so he would not advertise something not true.
His magnets are "tuned" and thats what separates them from some others.
I used to get all my mags from addiction FX but heard they are not very good at all (their strengths are all over the place) and are made in china.

I like using his A-4's in my neck pickups. I've recently bought old T-Tops('65 & a ''70) and it had very powerful, short A-5's in both. The Gauss was around 750+ on each measuring on the bare magnets using my very expensive Gauss meter. I put an A-4 in each pickup and they sound really nice: very clear, articulate and has a nice hollow tone that sounds like a vintage LP. I put one in the neck of my '04 HM R-7 Custom and the other in the neck of my '02 HM R-0. I may try a Seth in the neck of my HM ES-339 with an A-4. I got a set of the Seth's given to me by MJ@ Duncan a couple years back and they've just sat. The problem with swapping out pickups is that it's hard to beat the Throbak's in my guitars! I have 6 guitars with Throbak's,

I put an A3 from addiction FX in the Tribute first and it didn't sound very good. Really weak and anemic, but somehow was still boomy when played with OD. With the ThroBak A4 in the Tribute I can get a real thick tone with tons of sustain or lower it down for a brighter more snappy tone. I also tried an UOA5 from addiction FX in my Sheptone AB Custom bridge pup and it was mediocre at best. I knew it was a mistake to mess with the AB Custom, but I did it anyway. It's back to the original recpie now, never to be changed again. Anyway, very happy with the ThroBak A4 magnet, I could have bought 4 or 5 addiction FX magnets for the price of 1 ThroBak magnet, but having it right is worth every cent I paid and then some. :thumb:
