Since I bought Rocksmith in October, it has consumed 98% of my guitar playing time. With that being said, I haven't been playing nearly as much as I should be but Rocksmith has kept me going when I may not have been playing at all.

On Sunday I decided to do something different. I downloaded some fresh backing tracks and set off to do some improvising over them. I hadn't done this in a very long time... What I found was that everything about my playing was WAY better. My timing, phrasing, bends, vibrato etc were light years ahead of where they were pre Rocksmith.

I don't care what anyone says, this game will make you a better player. Now, if I could only get myself to really put in the time...

I took lessons a long time ago and decided I wanted to play again a couple years back. I played maybe once a month or so. I found out about RS from a friend and received it as a X-mas gift. Its totally re-invigorated my desire to play again. I'm now practicing just about every night (both on RS and off). I'm amazed at the progress I've made over the last 2 months. Its been a great teaching aid and I am very grateful to the developers.

But, I don't agree that it will birth a whole bunch of garage bands that play only the RS content. Because I'm getting more confident, learning a ton of new chords and scales, I've been actively searching for and learning some of my favorite songs outside of RS. I figure in a few more months I will probably even take up lessons again.

The ubisoft Rocksmith forum, has started a weekly song challenge. No prizes, just an excuse the grind out a song, for the best score you can get.

Wow, did I have to grind these. These were tough. for me to score this well. I still have not even got 3rd place yet.

The first 2 are master mode perforances. It is all from memory, and no note highway is shown. It does show the notes and your "hits" during the replay, so you can see where you still need work. I just achieved the ability on the 3rd song, I will be working it up in master mode this week.

Ditto. I took basic and intermediate in High school and that ended learning for me, so my playing became mostly rythm and Ive always wanted to take it to the next level, so I dont care what anyone says, this game got my fingers moving and a desire to play better, and according to my best critic, (my wife), Im 10x better than I used to be. I sure wish UBISoft would make some theory stuff, Id buy in a heartbeat...

That's pretty cool. I might have to sign up over there. A little competition always helps me out, even if just for bragging rights.

just got Rocksmith for my Xbox360 lastnight. its pretty freaking cool! tho my fingers hurt!, lol

i was surprised i got lots of 90%+ on my first try on songs ive never played before or even heard before

but then, i started getting my azz kicked.

tho i do find it strange, some of the notes it wants you to play. theres lots of notes on the same string, all up and down the board. id use other strings, but im sure theyre just trying to get you used to using the whole board

also, ive noticed ive been playing muted notes differently than the game recommends.

they recommend you fret the note regularly, but mute with your strumming hand

ive always muted at the note (dont push the string down all the way) and strum regularly

anyways, its a cool game. id recommend it to anyone. its definitely going to get me to play more and do different things and have fun doing it. the learning games are funny

Good for you for getting the game. It's fun. You had an odd way of muting. How did you mute an open string with your method. I always have used the strumming hand to mute. You get some really good chunks when using your strumming hand.

Well you will really have a lot of fun with the game. You will find that the songs that they picked are there for a reason. They open up your world into songs that you probably would not have played and different styles. It gets frustrating once in a while. Some songs are very lenient when you are in riff repeater, others you have to get it 100% correct. It's annoying.

If you only play the songs and do not do any of the minigames, then you will just be playing songs. The mini games really help you with things that are usually a chore. I think the game is brilliant. Ducks has definitely helped me play without paying attention to where I am on the fretboard. The other games help me with chords I would not normally play. I finished off the technique challenges pretty easily, but still have a lot of work do to on the minigames in the guitarcade.

That could be a feature in future releases, but the technical aspects of using a real guitar might be a challenge. Some people are experiencing "lag" using their console. It may be this lag would be multiplied if played online.

mine has some lag, like in the menus section, but not when im playing a song

Lag in the menus is common. I downloaded the song to my hard drive and it helped some, but there is lag in the menus.

Some pretty heavy tones here. I will probably never purchase this Gear Pack, but it this video does get some intense guitar tones.

Meh, I'm over it. It was fun for the first 45 minutes, haven't fired it up since.

It's much more fun learning songs using your ears and your knowledge of the fretboard than staring at a screen, just my opinion.

I also like Now We're Nowhere, Tip It Over, and New Diamond Love. A pretty cool album.
